Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technology and completion of a Surgical First Assistant Program

 

Good communications skills

 

Record keeping skills sufficient to manage required documentation

 

Working knowledge of OR instruments, equipment, and procedures

 

Licensure, Registration, Certification:

 

BLS

 

Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)

 

Certified Surgical First Assistant

 

Desired Qualifications:

 

Bachelors in healthcare related field

Responsibilities

Performs a variety of surgical assistant duties in caring for perioperative patients under supervision of the appointed mentor/ surgeon.  Prepares patient skin for surgery in accordance with Infirmary Health’s standards. Positions patients according to type of surgery. Maintains aseptic techniques. Cleans, prepares stores, distributes, and maintains various supplies, equipment, and instruments to assure efficiency operation and patient safety in the operating room. Services as a resource to other department staff.
