Title: Community Based Safety Specialist

Onsite at Treatment in Motion Mobile Medical Unit in Seattle

This is a non-exempt hourly position

Hours:  5 AM - 1:30 PM, Monday through Friday with rotating Saturday shifts.

Hourly rate: $28.85/hourly (The annual equivalent $60,0000 per year) + $1,500 sign on bonus*

This important role helps ETS accomplish our mission! The Community Based Safety Specialist is responsible for the safety of the Mobile Medication Unit (MMU) and ETS/REACH staff. This position oversees safety and client engagement while out in the community while also being responsible for safely transporting staff both to and from the Treatment in Motion (TIM) location. This position oversees safety and client engagement while out in the community. This position will foster relationships and community building by providing patient-centered services from a harm reduction perspective utilizing motivational interviewing, therapeutic verbal de-escalation, and trauma- informed care approaches.  


What you contribute to this role – Responsibilities:

  •  Help ETS succeed in carrying out our mission through working together with other staff to transform systems of harm and inequity to create different approaches to improving community health and safety through addressing substance use and homelessness. 
  • Assist with the organization-wide initiative to reimagine our interconnectedness within our community to overcome the aspects of our society and organizational culture shaped by white supremacy and settler colonialism.  
  • Carries out the safe operation and driving of a 20-foot RV-style vehicle in areas of high traffic.
  • Drives large shuttle transport vehicle, transporting clinic patients to and from dosing appointments at local opioid-treatment clinics.
  • Sets up and breaks down a mobile treatment facility in an urban environment.
  • Develops professional rapport and trusting relationships with patients through respectful, person-centered engagement practices.
  • Orients new patients to the remote TIM location and patient flow in and out of the space while maintaining a hospitable and friendly demeanor.
  • Monitors patients’ activities within the immediate vicinity of the remote treatment location with the intent to address any potential safety risks or violations of program rules and regulations.
  • Submits incident reports or other relevant documentation when appropriate, and monitors and reports hazardous materials and conditions.
  • Works in collaboration with Counselors and Case Managers to support individual service plans for patients with challenging behaviors.
  • Upholds strict patient confidentiality and safeguards sensitive security-related information, including logs and reports.
  • Conducts twice-daily safety inspection of mobile treatment unit both in the check-out and check-in of the vehicle to its secured location through the completion of a verified checklist; also monitors security cameras and control systems. 
  • Routinely maintains critical functions to the operation of the mobile treatment vehicle such as; fill-and-dump of gray water tank, tire pressure checks, fluid level checks, filling of the gas tank.
  • Assists with receiving and stocking supplies for the mobile treatment unit.
  • Assists police, fire, EMS, and all other emergency service providers in the performance of their duties while responding to the remote treatment location.
