Fall Lunar Node 2 Graduate Intern - (ADV000B2L) 

Your Impact:

 

The Amentum Space Exploration Division (ASED) Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) team is looking for fall interns!

 A Prime Contractor at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. since 1989, Amentum has supported many marquee NASA programs, including the Space Launch System (SLS) and the International Space Station.

We work collaboratively with the NASA customer in an integrated environment to provide GN&C system design, analysis, and integration support for applications including satellites, lunar landers, and launch vehicles.

Duties:

Typical responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Model, simulate, and analyze vehicle and spacecraft dynamics
  • Analysis of launch vehicle and spacecraft multi-body dynamics, equations of motion, and trajectories to assess contact and clearance during liftoff, separation, and jettison events
  • Develop, modify, and maintain software simulators, tools, and scripts
  • Create, edit, and debug software written in Python, C/C++, Matlab, and Simulink
  • Support verification and validation of technical products
  • Prepare and present technical reports and/or briefings
  • Create and review engineering and software documentation

Qualifications

Graduate student currently enrolled in science, technical, engineering, math or related degree program leading to a MS or PHD degree at an ABET accredited institution. 

Must be able to provide own transportation.

The successful candidate must:

  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Have the ability to multi-task and transition between assignments
  • Show initiative, be proactive and detail oriented
  • Work independently and collaboratively 
  • Must have a bachelors degree in a relevant field
  • Maintain an overall average of 3.0 in current academic program
  • Demonstrate strong technical aptitude

Essential Functions

Work Environment: 

Office and laboratory environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). 

Physical Requirements:

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (40%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%).  

Equipment and Machines: 

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Attendance: 

Normal workday 7:30-4:30, Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule m
