The Role:
As the Director of Medical Education at Alaska Physician Medical Group, you will be at the helm of undergraduate and graduate medical education training across all our campuses and facilities. You will provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to the central administration overseeing both accredited and non-accredited residency, fellowship, medical student, and APC training programs. This includes ensuring compliance with CMS cost reporting, managing contracts, adhering to State and Federal licensure regulations, and overseeing our GME Residency Management Systems. Additionally, you will be responsible for the oversight of affiliated trainees and learners within our clinical learning environment.
What You'll Do:
- Educational Strategist: Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for APMG’s Strategic Leadership in Medical Education: Provide overarching leadership for medical education operations, managing resources efficiently across functional areas to deliver high-quality services. Oversee several budgets and operating accounts, respond to inquiries on policy and procedure governing medical education, and administer daily operations of the Medical Education Administration office.
- Regulatory Compliance and Accreditation: Ensure the planning, support, and execution of internal processes align with accreditation and regulatory standards. Collaborate with other departments such as Medical Staff, Continuing Medical Education, Accreditation, Compliance, Human Resources, Employee Health, Security, and others as needed. This may also include coordination with Providence departments like Provider Services, Legal, and IS.
- Graduate Medical Education Committee Support: Lead the operations of the Graduate Medical Education Committee, including agenda development, meeting coordination, minute maintenance, and execution of action items. Provide guidance, direction, and counsel regarding policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with system priorities and policies.
- Recruitment and Retention: Direct the recruitment, orientation, and retention of residents and fellows in collaboration with program and executive leadership. Develop and implement processes to ensure program health, accreditation, and continuous improvement.
- Continuous Improvement and Innovation: Develop strategies and initiatives to enhance educational outcomes and inspire continuous improvement in the Clinical Learning Environment. Direct the development of new accreditation applications in conjunction with Program Directors and departmental managers.
- Contract and Budget Management: Develop and manage medical education budgets for defined programs. Oversee contracts related to visiting rotating residents and students, as well as outgoing Alaska Physician Medical Group trainees to other institutions.
- Staff Development: Conduct annual employee reviews, encourage staff development, and monitor adherence to employee standards. Support fellowship onboarding and contracting and ensure the successful completion of DIO duties.
- Campus Coordination: Work closely with the CMO at each campus to ensure smooth operations of GME training programs.
- Perform Other Duties as Assigned: Contribute to various initiatives and projects as needed to support the overall mission of the organization.
What You'll Bring:
- Educational Background: Master's Degree preferred; or Bachelor's Degree with two additional years of experience in the medical education field.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years in medical education.
- Skill Set: Leadership, project management, fiscal responsibility, computer and data management, supervision, knowledge of GME, accreditation requirements, simulation services, technologies, educational theory, PC software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Competencies: Independent problem solving, decision making, analytical thinking, conflict resolution, negotiating abilities.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to develop trusting relationships with medical staff, administration, and department personnel, excellent oral communication with internal and external contacts.
