The energy transition needs you as Software System Architect at Grid to Great
As the energy transition accelerates, our energy grid faces higher demands. We need a new approach to substation automation—requiring less equipment and fewer man-hours, while generating crucial data for grid operators. Our solutions, used by companies like Ellevio, Liander and National Grid, are evolving with new sensors and software. We are creating the energy grid of the future, for everyone, with everyone. And as Software System Architect, you can play your part in this. Your role will involve:
- Composing and designing the system architecture, including substation server software, embedded software, and DevOps.
- Identifying and assessing risks, formulating strategies for risk avoidance and mitigation
- Translating customer needs into development roadmaps and design specifications.
- Creating and updating our Architecture Framework (.ocd).
- Conducting design reviews, software improvements, and continuous integration.
- Ensuring data security through OWASP compliance, PEN tests, and other measures.
- Collaborating with and mentor junior developers, providing guidance and coaching.

You energize our network
Contributing to the digitalization of the energy transition with your talent and strengths, you can do that at our company. Will you contribute with your desire to innovate? We are looking in particular for a candidate with:
- A master’s degree in engineering, preferably in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
- At least 5 years of experience in developing complex, real-time software architectures. Experience with C, C++, Python and/or JavaScript.
- Experience in security concepts such as OWASP and ENCS
- Excellent communication skills in English (at Grid to great we communicate in both Dutch and English)
- Ambition and willingness to travel occasionally to international partners or clients for workshops and demonstrations.
Attractive salary and benefits package
Based on a 40-hour working week, you will receive:
- a gross monthly salary of €5.890 to €8.414 (scale 11);
- annually an Individual Choice Budget (IKB) of 18% (full time) or 12.8% (part time) of your gross annual salary. This includes 5.2% ADV (shorter working hours) and 8% holiday allowance. If you do not work full time, you are not entitled to ADV. You can have this budget paid out as extra salary or use it to purchase extra days off, for example. You choose the option that is right for you.
- 25 days’ holiday (statutory + non-statutory). You can use your IKB to top this up.
- on top of that, Grid to great will grant you five additional days per year to be with your family and friends, e.g., between Christmas and New Years
- an end-of-year bonus of 6% of your annual salary in December.
