40Position Summary
This key role will support general pediatric physicians within the Division of Academic Pediatrics in providing clinical care in a dynamic outpatient setting. This position is during regular clinic hours Monday thru Friday with no weekends.Primary role is triaging care and managing tasks related to general pediatric patients including paperwork, orders and scheduling patients. Potential procedure skills we are looking for include ability to obtain respiratory swabs (NP swab, Strep Throat testing), and catheterized urine samples. Position provides specialized patient care and education for patients receiving treatments and examinations according to established procedures.
The primary work location is at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Performs and documents assessment of the patient/family (biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, spiritual and environmental); collects and analyzes data from the medical record in order to coordinate patient care.
- Directs and/or provides patient care, which may include administering medication, performing procedures and monitoring patient status in accordance with approved nursing practice.
- Provides appropriate counsel and education to patients/family regarding disease process and symptom management.
- Maintains medical records requiring appropriate and timely recording of patient information.
- Consults with members of the health care team, adjusting nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Demonstrates cost-effective work habits by setting priorities and properly managing supplies and equipment.
- Participates in quality improvement activities to ensure appropriate clinical outcome.
- Other duties as assigned to support patient care, the department, and the division.

Required Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Completion of National Specialty Certification relevant to the area where working, if applicable.
- Current Missouri RN licensure in accordance with Compact Act.
- Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).
- Advanced clinical skills (e.g., PALS, ACLS, IV Certification, Bone Marrow Biopsy).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Pediatrics experience.
- Working knowledge of general nursing theory and practice with ability to recognize and interpret symptoms/conditions and ability to function in new and emergent situations; general knowledge and experience in an area of specialized clinical care.
