Requirements
The Education Coordinator for the Office of Human Subject Protections (OHSP) supports the required and ongoing compliance / regulatory education needs of the OHSP. The conduct of human subject research requires an understanding of many complex and sometimes disparate regulatory and ethical issues and how they apply to GU research in order to ensure the protection of research volunteers and the integrity of the study data. Study teams must continually balance these compliance and ethical requirements with the need to facilitate quality research procedures. In order for GU to prospectively ensure the regulatory and ethical compliance of study teams engaged in human subject research the education coordinator will play an active role in providing onboarding and continuing human subject research education across campus. S/he will plan, develop, and implement education for inter-professional clinical research personnel across campuses, including education to OHSP staff and Institutional Review Board (IRB) members. The Education Coordinator is not expected to be an expert in all compliance areas but will engage appropriate experts for content development as needed. Additional duties include but are not limited to:
Engage in ongoing professional development of clinical research professionals through active ongoing assessment of regulatory changes and current topics in clinical research.
Assess the educational needs of the research community.
Develop educational programs based on needs assessment, regulatory requirements and changes, and institution compliance metrics.
Utilize multi-modal methods to implement and evaluate educational programs for the research community.
Build collaborations to identify and provide programs to key target audiences.
Track and report program outcomes to senior leadership.
Work Interactions
The Office of Human Subject Protections serves as the official oversight office for human subject research activities at Georgetown University. The Office of Human Subject Protections reports to the Medical Center Dean for Research and the Vice Provost of Research for the Main Campus. The education coordinator reports directly to the Senior Director of the Office of Human Subject Protections with focused oversight for educational activities of the office. The position will be expected to work collaboratively with the multiple offices and departments within the institution to plan and execute education needs for the research community. In additional to OHSP, these offices include the Office of Research Oversight, the Clinical Research Operations Office, Joint Office of Research Administration, and various campus departments and schools. Lastly, it is expected this position will work collaborative with the Georgetown-Howard Universities Center Clinical and Translational Science (GHUCCTS) workforce development core.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required in an ethics, scientific, healthcare, and/or education discipline; Alternate degree fields will be considered/accepted based upon the nature and depth of the research or education experience as it relates to this position
A minimum of 1-2 years’ work experience that provided familiarity with research ethics, conduct, and methodologies
A minimum of 5 years’ work experience planning and implementing educational programs for diverse and complex stakeholders
Computer proficiency is required, including MS Word, Excel, internet browsers, and email
It is critical for the candidate to have experience using platforms for remote delivery of education; such as, Zoom, Panopto, Canvas or equivalent
