Purpose Statement
To ensure that the Cleaner product line team is successful in the execution of all engineering tasks needed to support the product line and business. This role will focus on meeting the production schedule requirements as well as developing the product line.
The Manager makes decisions to recommend and allocate team members with a focus to develop, approve and coordinate work schedules to ensure that objectives of cost, quality and time are met. The Manager is actively involved in deciding on the specifications of an item to be made or purchased and any deviation from pre-approved specification in coordination with operations and product manager as necessary. Ensure that all staff are fully trained in department policies and procedures; that they have established objectives in place; and that they are motivated and performing to established standards. This requires the employee to set staff objectives, review their performance and where required, take corrective action to deal with below standard performance. When warranted, the employee makes salary recommendations for the staff. The Manager will also select, train and develop a professional team as well as performing as a responsible member of the engineering team. Supervise 2-3 direct reports while coordinating with contracted support staff.
Job responsibilities and tasks
•Designing new cleaners and components.
•Reverse engineering ( making drawings of existing machineries and components).
•Assist both customers and Andritz field personnel in correcting field problems, making recommendations and field modifications as needed, and assist with modifications of all drawings affected any field modifications, revised to show "as-built equipment.
•Creation and releasing of standard and customer specific BOMs incl. material definition, drawings, documents, standard and library parts.
•Apply serial records for asset control through Database plus determine resins that perform with specific molds; Document mold costs, lifetime of mold, number of shots to evaluation replacement cycle.
•Prepare raw material specification sheets for all parts.
•Implement new designs or procedures for problem resolution as well as cost and lead time reduction.
•Work on R&D projects with the Regional Product Managers and the Global Product Home.
•Determine method for Quality Control (QC) or resin used by each vendor globally.
•Travel to vendor sites to inspect molds, assist with production problems, and conduct annual QC audits.
•Technical calculations (e.g. minimum wall thickness various material types in different applications).
•Supports Product Managers for manual creations/adoptions.
•Direct other Engineers, Technicians, and Drafting when requested.
•Assist vendor in mold/resin application production requirements.
•Assist QC with outlining inspection requirements and troubleshooting for complaints.
•Travel to main vendors during initial production runs to establish baseline production and QC.
•Travel to vendor sites to inspect molds, assist with production problems, and conduct annual QC audits.
•Able and willing to travel (Domestic and International).
•Support at test runs, installations, start ups and field services on demand.
•Perform all other duties as assigned.
Documentation of engineering work (e.g. R&D reports, project reports, technical calculation reports)
Education, professional experience, and qualification preferred/required
•BS or MS in mechanical or plastics engineering equivalent combination of education and experience with a minimum of five (5) years practice as an Engineer.
•Wide knowledge of basic engineering materials and manufacturing processes
•Working knowledge of the design/manufacturing custom fabrications and machined parts
•Familiarity with manufacturing documentation methods (bills of materials, routings and tool lists, etc.)
•Ability to correctly tolerance parts with GD&T for form, fit, and functions.
•Think creatively to develop ideas that can be protected by patents
•Proficiency in 3-D modeling and 2-D drawing
•Candidate must be PC proficient with experience using an ERP system is (SAP preferred).
