Purpose
The purpose of the position is to conduct research in the area of ISG15 conjugation and signaling in innate immunity. Candidate is expected to play an active role in training of junior members of the lab (undergraduate, graduate students) and support management efforts in ordering and lab safety.
Responsibilities
Conducting laboratory research which includes: Experimental design and implementation, interpretation of experimental data with appropriate statistical analyses. Preparation and presentation of research findings for informal lab meetings, research symposia (e.g., departmental retreats and poster sessions) and scientific conferences. Conceptualizing and preparing figures and text for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Assisting the Principle Investigator in conceptualizing and preparing formal research grants for support of the laboratory.
Training/supervision of undergraduate and graduate students which includes: Introduction of new students to essential lab skills related to research activities in the lab, including proper and safe operation of major lab and shared equipment. Training in maintaining laboratory electronic notebooks and assistance in maintaining laboratory UT Box organization along with lab data sharing. Training in data analysis and presentation, including training in research poster presentation and use of BioRender.
Laboratory management support which includes: Orientation of new students to the laboratory and ensuring that all lab-specific training and required UT training is complete. Lead role in ordering supplies and reagents for the laboratory; ensuring cost efficiency and communicating with vendor representatives. Lead role in ensuring laboratory research equipment is properly maintained. Lead role in organizing and maintaining permanent laboratory stocks (e.g., bacterial stocks and mammalian cell lines.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in relevant area (e.g., biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology) with at least 2 years postdoctoral experience in academia or industry. Standard molecular cloning techniques, including site-directed mutagenesis, DNA sequence analysis. Use of CRISPR technology for generation of specifically altered mammalian cell lines. Purification of recombinant proteins from bacterial and human cells, including ion exchange and affinity purification techniques and immunoprecipitation techniques. Expertise in immunoblotting techniques and SDS-PAGE analysis of protein samples. Expertise in preparation of protein samples for mass spectrometry analyses, including for mapping of post-translational modification sites. Expertise in mammalian cell culture techniques. Experience in flow cytometry of mammalian cells. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in relevant area and four years postdoctoral experience in academia or industry. Expertise in protein structure analysis and structure determination by X-ray crystallography and/or Cryo-Electron Microscopy. Experience with infectious bacterial and/or viral disease models. Expertise in the area of immunology and lymphocyte biology.
Salary Range
$68,000 + depending on qualifications
