Team Product Owner Software Systems Engineer

 

JOB SUMMARY

This position is primarily concerned with SW product definition and will work to translate users’ needs, commercial desires, regulatory and technical standards into use cases, workflows, user stories, and UI mockups for software development teams. This role is accountable for developing clear, concise software requirements for complex medical devices and their associated software applications.  This role must understand the goals of the end user and develop product expertise. Working in a regulated industry, this role must adhere to design controls procedures and help teams to execute software development while generating evidence needed for regulatory submissions/audits. This role is accountable for establishing and maintaining alignment with the program backlog, providing direction to the Scrum team throughout the project, and defining and owning portions of the product backlog and/or medium-sized projects. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Work closely with supervisor or Program Product Owner and other subject matter experts to create and/or maintain a software product backlog
  • Own the sequencing of the backlog, within boundaries set by technical leadership
  • Acquire in-depth knowledge of complex products and systems
  • Work with Scrum Teams to plan and implement stories from the backlog into working, deliverable software
  • Communicate the work that needs to be done to meet users’ needs, in a way that makes sense to the Scrum Team
  • Collaborate with UX designers and customer-facing associates to create and optimize user interface design
  • Define the Acceptance Criteria for stories. Determine if functionality as built by the Scrum team meets the User Story’s Acceptance Criteria. Represent the customer/user to the scrum team
  • Work with other Product Owners to align backlogs when synchronized development is needed across teams and product platforms
  • Facilitate technical ROI tradeoffs and minimum viable functionality with commercial partners

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify hazards, develops mitigations and performs risk analysis as part of a cross-functional team of subject matter experts
  • Derive requirements for both medical devices and associated software applications from multiple sources including customer, regulatory SMEs and other stakeholders using various methods such as use-case development, usability testing, functional breakdown from user needs Work as a member of a Scrum team to define the functionality being implemented as stories from the backlog into working, deliverable software
  • Perform  data analysis and interpretation to inform defect resolution and/or product direction
  • May plan, coordinate and facilitate end-user human factors and validation testing activities
  • Maintain traceability of software user needs and requirements throughout project lifecycles
  • Communicates effectively with a wide variety of cross-functional marketing, regulatory, quality, engineering and scientific groups (both verbally and in writing) on a broad range of complex issues
  • Assist with product support escalations, including technical analysis and characterization of issues
  • Partner with Tech Comm team as a SME for customer-facing strings, user guide and training development

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

Education

Bachelor’s degree or, equivalent of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.

  • Engineering and/or scientific disciplines preferred

 

Experience

Minimum 2 years’ experience or advanced education or demonstrated engineering implementation and design capabilities

  • Real world experience (start to finish) on software development or technical projects<
