JOB TITLE:   

UW RMMC Safety Technician

JOB PURPOSE:   

The Safety Technicians assist the Hazmat Specialist and the Hazmat Supervisor with the day to day operation of the Regulated Materials Management Center. We identify, categorize, transport and store all of the regulated materials that exist on campus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Identifying and classifying hazardous waste
  • Record-keeping
  • Safety inspections
  • Chemical delivery
  • Facility cleaning and maintenance
  • Data Entry 

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:  

Crossed trained with UW Safety Technicians

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: 

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

Education: Current UW student
Experience: General chemistry, biology, physics or engineering (college level preferred).
Other requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 50lbs with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.
  • Pass required background check

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Candidate should be able to work in the summer months, academic breaks and between semesters.
  • General chemistry, biology, physics and engineering background preferred, but not necessary. 
  • Computer skills and/or safety / environmental background preferred.
