Machine Shop Technician/Tool Maker

Job Purpose

Provide technical support to all Cardiac Assist Division departments to ensure that manufacturing processes, equipment and tooling are in compliance with Datascope’s standards and the FDA GMP requirements.

Job Functions:

• Perform machining duties for all in-house designed and built fixtures, tooling, gages, R&D prototypes and test apparatus.
• Utilize machining, pneumatic, PLC and electrical skills to advance engineering products.
• Build fixtures to support engineering projects, reduce costs, and improve production.
• Perform service on all injection molds, production, and R&D fixtures/tooling.
• Provide design support and technical solutions for all departments.
• Provide expertise in CAD/CAM technology to produce parts and injection molds.
• Participate with the design and manufacturing engineers in fixture, tooling design process.
• Determine together with Engineering Manager whether tasks are to be performed in-house or are more cost effective to be done by outside vendors.
• Determine together with Engineering Manager which vendor is best suited for each particular task – purchasing selections.
• Provide administrative duties and prioritize incoming work to meet timelines.
• Maintain shop inventory at appropriate levels to minimize manufacturing downtime.
• Mange the purchasing of various items to support production and assign the purchase to the appropriate accounts.
• Work independently and take initiative to address production or design issues using fabrication and machining solutions.
• Accurately set up and use various measuring equipment (Micrometer, gauges, etc.)

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

• Ability to prioritize projects and deliver rapid solutions to meet timelines.
• Ability to manage several projects simultaneously – multi-task environment
• Strong problem solving skills to achieve technical solutions.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills
• Advanced computer abilities
• Ability to work independently

Minimum Requirements:

• 10 or more years of experience (apprenticeship included) working in a machine shop
• 10 or more years of experience (apprenticeship included) using 3-Axis CAD/CAM software
• Maintain current training on CAD and CAM software. (Solidworks knowledge, Master CAM Proficiency)
• Experience working with a wide variety of materials (plastics, metals, rubber, etc.)
• Experience with a Lathe, Milling Machines, CNC, and Grinder
• Ability to read, understand, and interpret drawings and designs
• Working knowledge of EDM

Salary: $34/hr - $38/hr
