Welder Fabricator

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking a skilled Welder Fabricator to join our day shift Pullman WA based machine shop team. Welder Fabricators of all experience levels are encouraged to apply. Experience level will determine job title. In this position you will be responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC and manually operated fabrication equipment to produce and then inspect a wide variety of sheet metal and other custom components. Welding is an essential part of this role so we are specifically looking for an experienced welder that is proficient with MIG and TIG welding processes. And preferably has a solid understanding of welding theory and basic understanding of welding metallurgy and nondestructive testing processes. Experience with aluminum, stainless steel, carbon steel, and titanium is preferred. In addition to technical skills set, we are looking for someone who models SEL values as outlined in our Principles of Operation. The ideal candidate will be an excellent problem solver, self-driven to improve in their craft, and willing to learn and teach a broad range of welding and fabrication skills and technologies. 

This is a day shift position, Monday to Friday, 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM

As a Welder Fabricator, a typical day might include the following:

• Using CNC and manual fabrication equipment to produce parts of moderate to high complexity under limited supervision. 

• Performing preventive maintenance on shop equipment. 

• Creating CNC programs with CAD/CAM systems. 

• Providing design feedback and training to engineering and other staff on basic to moderate design projects.

• Adhering to all shop safety procedures.

This job might be for you if:

• You have 2 years of trade school or equivalent experience

• You have 4 years machinist experience

• You can read and interpret moderate to complex blueprints

• You are versed in welding theory and industry standards

• You can create basic CAD/CAM programs

Physical Requirements:

• Lift and maneuver 40 pounds

• Pull weight from high/low shelves

• Reach

• Bend

• Grip

• Twist

• Sit and/or stand at least 8 hours

• Fine finger dexterity

Pay Range Data: New hires general start between $20.77 - $38.37 per hour. We base our starting pay offer on location and job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills. Our ranges are determined by job, responsibility, and location.
