Overview:
The National Security Sciences Directorate (NSSD) of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks applicants for the Division Director of the Cyber Resilience and Intelligence Division (CRID). This position reports to the NSSD Associate Laboratory Director (ALD). The Division Director will be responsible for leading and managing the science and technology (S&T) capabilities within the Division, consistent with existing programmatic missions and emerging opportunities as well as establishing and implementing strategies for strategic directions in concert with NSSD leadership. CRID is comprised of multi-disciplinary scientists, engineers, and mission-focused experts that collectively expand and improve the S&T underpinnings of critical infrastructure protection, identity sciences, and artificial intelligence (AI) for national security. CRID conducts research and development for novel scientific methods, tools, and visualizations to identify and mitigate cyber-physical risks to the security and operation of the nation’s critical infrastructure. CRID also develops and deploys reliable, robust AI tools to improve national security mission operations—including cyber defenses, ISR, generative AI using large language models, and identity sciences—while exposing and mitigating the threats and vulnerabilities posed by adversarial AI. Additionally, CRID produces scientific breakthroughs in biometrics and cyber identity science to identify adversaries across a variety of cyber and physical mission environments and protect US personnel and assets.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership that focuses and integrates Division capabilities toward world-class S&T goals consistent with the programmatic missions of NSSD and the Laboratory.
- Provide and/or supervise direct point-of-contact program management interface to sponsoring organizations.
- Collaborate with management peers to assist the ALD in defining and implementing strategic programmatic R&D missions for NSSD and the Laboratory.
- Represent ORNL before advisory committees.
- Emphasize the scientific productivity, impact, and reputation of CRID and engagement of staff in professional organizations.
- Ensure the Division executes projects and delivers outcomes consistent with commitments on budget and schedule.
- Execute line management responsibilities including supervision of Division leadership, budget and business planning, salary planning, staff recruitment and development, employee relations, and performance management.
- Build Division capabilities by attracting a quality, diverse pool of top candidates, and hire staff members who are committed to world-class R&D and aspire to be the best in their field.

The National Security Sciences Directorate conducts R&D to confront some of the nation’s most difficult security challenges and adversaries.
