About the Department
The Rare Disease organization leads all US Commercial efforts for Novo Nordisk’s Rare Disease portfolio. The Rare Disease portfolio includes medical treatments, customer solutions, and devices across multiple Therapy Areas including Rare Bleeding Disorders, Rare Endocrine Disorders, Rare Renal Disorders, and Hemoglobinopathies (Sickle Cell Disease & Beta Thalassemia), as well as new products in the pipeline.
The Rare Disease organization is responsible for leading the enterprise approach to achieving our patient care goals and financial objectives, devising and delivering transformative patient and customer experiences, addressing unmet needs across the communities we serve, and setting the industry standard for extraordinary execution. The team members collaborate and partner cross functionally with multiple functions and groups throughout the US organization, Clinical Development, Research & Early Development, other affiliates, and the Global HQ teams.

The Position
The Senior Director, Rare Disease Marketing is accountable for overseeing inline & emerging assets for rare bleeding and rare endocrine therapy areas (TA), leading the strategy for each asset and overall portfolio to ensure success. In coordination with global, will develop and implement effective pre and post-launch and in-line plans to maximize revenue, market share and profitability goals. Has significant decision-making authority and influence on impacting revenue and profitability. Leads the annual brand and portfolio strategy planning processes to drive integrated customer centric strategies and programming. Responsible for brand and portfolio performance in partnership with sales leadership. Manages US marketing budget and allocates spend in accordance with business priorities. Significant contributor to the global strategy for the portfolio by working closely with global marketing and medical leaders by participating in cross-functional and global Core Commercialization Teams. Relationships
Reports to the Group Vice President of Rare Disease and is a key contributor to the Rare Disease Leadership team. This leader will serve as the primary interface with the heads of both commercial and non-commercial functions within NNI relative to designated areas within Rare Disease, their performance and business impact. This leader will work closely with Commercial Excellence, Field Sales and Community Engagement to deliver on the Rare Disease promise.
Essential Functions
- Develop and execute the Rare Disease commercial strategy for the designated therapeutic areas, aligning with overall company objectives
- Responsible for the Profit & Loss (P&L) statement for the assigned therapeutic areas within Rare Disease
- Establish and monitor financial performance metrics, ensuring revenue targets and profitability goals are met or exceeded
- Define key performance metrics and establish mechanisms for tracking and reporting on the effectiveness of commercial marketing strategies and initiatives
- Accountable for matrixed management of dedicated functions and leading the RD portfolio with a high level of influence
- Responsible for ensuring market analysis, competitor assessment, and customer experience insights to shape strategic decisions and plans with iterative adjustments as new customer experience or competitor insights become available
- Lead an integrated Rare Disease strategic planning process cross-functionally across the enterprise including portfolio prioritization and alignment
- Reimagine marketing through a customer experience lens to drive a focus on human centric, insight driven strategy and execution
- Accountable for shaping and defining customer experience strategy, planning and execution across customer types including HCPs and patients in Rare Disease
- Provides leadership oversight in developing and executing the overall pre-launch and launch strategic and tactical brand plans in alignment/collaboration with global marketing
