JOB SUMMARY
Works under general supervision to independently provide education on eye and tissue donation to hospital staff, medical examiner staff, funeral home staff and the general public. Also assists with performing screening and authorization of eye and tissue donors in accordance with the policies and procedures of Transplant Services Center and the standards of the American Association of Tissue Banks and the Eye Bank Association of America.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
- Education
Completion of two years of college, to include at least six (6) credit hours in basic science,
- Experience
2 years of experience in a clinical healthcare setting, preferably in organ, eye, or tissue banking combined with completion of 2 years of college
Candidates without the stated minimum education, but with an additional two (2) or more years' experience in screening and authorization in organ, eye, or tissue banking may be considered.

(RN) REGISTERED NURSE - Licensure as a Registered Nurse preferred Upon Hire
JOB DUTIES
- Provides education on eye and tissue donation to hospital staff, medical examiner staff, funeral home staff and for the general public.
- Performs follow up on donor referrals including outcome and feedback to involved staff in hospitals, medical examiners, and funeral homes.
- Prepares and delivers donor referral and recovery statistics to key hospital personnel.
- Performs troubleshooting for referral and donation process issues.
- Attends and participates in donor committee meetings at hospitals and medical examiners.
- Plans and attends education and donor-related events in the community, hospitals, funeral homes, and other organizations (service clubs, churches, etc.)
- Performs donor screening and authorization tasks as needed:
- Receives death notifications from hospitals and medical examiner offices.
- Obtains and reviews information on death to evaluate for potential eye and tissue donation. Information obtained includes patient demographics, circumstances of death, cause of death, current and past medical/social history, and current medical condition.
- Presents donation options and completes authorization documentation with families via recorded phone conversations.
- Provides information and support to donor
