About the role
The Simulation Operations Specialist provides operational and comprehensive technical support for the clinical simulation suite and skills lab for the nursing program. The position is accountable for the day-to-day operations of the suite which involves technical and hands-on support for the preparation and delivery of simulation equipment, manikins, and related technologies and software.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Sets up, programs, tests, and runs scenarios and events with simulation faculty, including trial runs to identify gaps and adjustments required for operation of different simulator technologies ranging from anatomic models and full body patient simulators, and standardized patients
- Prepares, sanitizes, maintains, and ensures functionality of high-fidelity manikins, task trainers, and related multimedia peripherals; prepares and applies moulage - simulated injuries, wounds, bruising - to standardized patients and simulators.
- Operates and critically troubleshoots simulation equipment malfunctions and technology issues; identifies problems, takes action to resolve in a fast-paced environment. (advanced audio-video recording systems, cameras, microphones, audio/video mixers, amplifiers, projectors, live streaming equipment, video production (including editing), and other types of media equipment)
- Participates in training by presenting and instructing on the proper use and maintenance of simulation equipment and technology.
- Operates and maintains medical equipment such as IV pumps, ventilators, anesthesia machines, standard defibrillators, and automated external defibrillators (AEDs.)
- Installs and updates simulation management software (Leardal LLEAP, CAE LearningSpace, etc.) and hardware upgrades and maintains functionality of manikin components as directed by the manufacturer support
- Organizes and enhances lab space/environment to include rearranging/relabeling simulation bays to optimize workflow; deep cleans simulation lab, updates signage, and ensures compliance with all governmental and University policies, rules, laws, regulations and codes
- Performs routine inspections on all lab equipment ensuring that equipment is functional, sanitized, calibrated, properly stored, and perform minor repairs.
- Maintains inventory of simulation suite and lab supplies and equipment and conducts routine inventory updates; orders and restocks supplies in collaboration with the Director of Nursing.
- Serves as a primary contact with equipment manufacturers regarding equipment troubleshooting, in-service checks and system problems; maintains equipment records and service contracts (purchases, serial numbers, dates, warranties, repair histories, etc.)
- Coordinates with vendors related to various modalities of equipment for maintenance, installation, troubleshooting, and in-services
- Develops and maintains standard operating procedures for simulation session and equipment usage; organizes and digitizes simulation center manuals, user guides, and technical documentation; reviews and revises simulation center policies.
- Maintains and coordinates scheduling, designing of simulations for each semester; coordinates with clinical partners and/or attends community-based simulation events
- Assists with orientation, training, grant applications, capital requests for equipment, conducting tours, and in the participation in various University initiatives.
- Assists with the planning, coordination, and execution of sponsored events to include but not limited to outreach programs, summer camps and STEM initiatives in coordination with faculty, staff, and administration.
- Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, develops professional contacts, cross trains with clinical faculty and staff; attends professional development courses or training (SimGHOSTS, INACSL courses)
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate degree from an accredited institution or equivalent; Bachelor degree preferred.
- 2 years of experience in healthcare simulation-based learning/technology or equivalent in related profession as simulation operator such as allied health profession certification and training (Licensed Practical Nurse, Certified Nurse Assistant, Paramedic, Emergency Medical Technician), or equivalent demonstrated experience with healthcare simulation software
- Experience with or a strong working knowledge of healthcare
