JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, Term Research Technician 2 assists in studying cellular mechanisms in Alzheimer’s disease neuronal models.
- Performs basic lab techniques (Western blots, qPCR, mouse tail PCR genotyping, microscopy, primary neuronal culture, and transcardiac perfusion/histology), surgical skills in microinjection, and mouse behaviors.
- Prepares primary neuronal cell culture.
- Perform experiments in primary neuron cells and calcium imaging experiments in neurons and established cell models; take confocal images and analyze the data.
- Prepares plasmid DNA, cloning, and transfecting cells to establish new cellular models.
- Purchases lab inventory and maintains lab inventory records.
- Participates in multiple projects ongoing in PI's lab (e.g., TRPC3 and tau projects).
- Maintains multiple lines of mouse colonies (weaning, genotyping, setting up matings).
- Assists in collecting and analyzing data via working with other personnel (postdoctoral fellows and IBS students) in the lab.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or Biomedical Science or a related field. (Neuroscience major is preferred.) (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: OR a combination of college coursework and work experience to equal four (4) years.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Good organization and communication skills.
- Ability to follow directions on experimental protocols or requests from the Principal Investigator.
- Ability to master their work schedule to accomplish goals.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings.
