The Office of the State Attorney, Ninth Judicial Circuit is seeking a Homicide Prosecutor to join our office!
Starting salary: Commensurate with experience, plus State of Florida employee retirement and insurance options, attorney benefits, paid holidays, and leave.

Overview:
The Homicide Prosecutor is responsible for handling the most serious and complex criminal cases involving the unlawful taking of human life. This role requires advanced trial skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work closely with law enforcement, victims’ families, and expert witnesses. The prosecutor will lead all aspects of case development, from investigation through trial and sentencing, ensuring justice is served while upholding the highest ethical standards.
Essential Functions:

The ideal candidate must possess the following:
- Strong litigation skills.
- Trial and evidentiary hearing experience.
- Interpersonal skills to work with victim advocates, homicide survivors, expert witnesses, and our law enforcement partners.
- Experience with expert witness subject matter.
- Flexibility allowing for phone calls and assisting law enforcement at any hour from time to time.
- Must be able to work under pressure, and in high stress and/or high anxiety causing situations, both in and outside the courtroom.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Member in good standing of the Florida Bar (or eligible for admission).
- Minimum of 5 years of criminal prosecution or comparable litigation experience, with significant felony jury trial experience required.
- Demonstrated ability to manage high-stakes, complex cases under pressure.
- Strong courtroom presence and persuasive oral and written advocacy skills.
- Ability to work effectively with law enforcement, forensic experts, and diverse community members.
- Commitment to justice, fairness, and ethical prosecution.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience prosecuting homicide or capital felony cases.
- Specialized training in forensic evidence, criminal investigations, or capital litigation.
