Program Director, Deep Tech at Duke

 

 

 Occupational Summary


The Program Director (level 13) reports to Professor David Hoffman, Steed Family Professor of the Practice of Cybersecurity Policy, who is leading a new project at Duke to explore how deep technologies like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, advanced semiconductors and green hydrogen will impact business and society. The Program Director will be a partner to Professor Hoffman in creating new programming, engaging students and sparking intellectual leadership in this space. The Deep Tech Program Director is responsible for ensuring the overall excellence and relevance of programming and developing campus and community partnerships. The position is funded for 2 years but could be extended if additional funds are raised.

 

 Work Performed

Strategic Leadership and Program Development

  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for Deep Tech at Duke and working across every part of Duke to create a connected community of faculty, staff and students around these topics
    • Develop and implement protocols and operating policies
    • Correspond with interested students about program activities and develop a mailing list for interested parties
  • Engage with leading businesses, foundations and governments to raise awareness and funding for Deep Tech at Duke
    • Prepare applications for grants and develop a budget in accordance with University policies and sponsors’ requirements
    • Serve as liaison with outside educational and professional organizations to create partnerships
  • Work with Professor Hoffman to host three major convenings at Duke in the 2024-25 academic year
    • Coordinate arrangements for speakers and manage schedule, facility reservations, publicity and event budgets
    • Coordinate and participate in meetings with faculty members to determine objectives of the program and/or center and to identify internal and external resources available to meet those objectives.

 

 
Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program and five years of experience.

 

Experience

Work requires five years of experience in continuing education, curriculum design, marketing, administrative management or business to acquire skills necessary to plan, develop and coordinate a variety of seminars, conferences, workshops and short courses or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
