Level Designer

Are you a game developer with an appetite for high quality, 3rd person, Action/Adventure games? Sony PlayStation Studios Creative Arts Development Team provides premier content, development and services to PlayStation Studios. We offer a full-service production studio with an emphasis in art and animation, as well as previsualization, cinematics, character creation, motion capture, software development, and face/body scanning, tracking and solving.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and model simplified geometry environmental layouts, place game objects, and script level progression.
  • Develop plans for map updates and evolutions.
  • Perform extensive level play testing, reviews, and iteration.
  • Collaborate with artists, programmers, animators and other game designers to craft the vision of your levels and the game.
  • Design and champion gameplay systems, conventions, and scenarios.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years designing and scripting both single and multi-player levels for games.
  • Eye for art composition, architectural concepts, and an ability to create evocative shapes
  • Experience modeling blockmesh/whitebox environments in Maya, 3DS Max, or similar 3D package
  • Understanding of simple scripting/programming concepts using a language such as C++, C#, Lua, Lisp, or Python
  • Strong and effective communication skills
  • Self-motivated with an ability to take initiative.
  • Welcomes feedback and collaborates well as part of a team with varied strengths, innovating without losing sight of the gameplay vision.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working as a design generalist.
  • Familiarity with Lisp programming language.
  • Experience working on games for consoles.
  • You are a highly collaborative individual and can help facilitate a collaborative relationship across the team.
