As a Turbine Generator Service Technician (Winder) you will perform operations involving the inspection, disassembly, assembly, repair, refurbishment, and maintenance of all mechanical and electrical components in Turbine Generators with emphasis on the Generator Rotating Field.Job Description
This is a 4-week rotating shift position between 1st and 2nd shift (7:00am-3:30pm & 3:00pm-11:30pm)*
As a Winder you will perform complicated operations involving the inspection, repair, replacement, installation and maintenance of all mechanical and electrical components in Rotor Coils.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Perform mechanical disassembly / reassembly of rotors in high quality and timely fashion-(to include removal and installation of coupling, fans, retaining rings, blower hubs, wedges, block
- Perform this work using drawings, work procedures or work orders with minimal supervision
- Perform all electrical tests and inspections
- Perform and assist with all generator electrical diagnostic tests according to testing procedures.
- Troubleshoot electrical or mechanical issue
- Braze copper winding connectors either by propane torches, carbon resistance or induction heaters.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects and lean action work outs.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- High School Diploma / GED or Equivalent OR 2 years of relevant work experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a mechanical or repair field
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be legally authorized to work in the USA without sponsorship now or in the future
- Must work rotating 1st and 2nd shift (7:00am-3:30pm / 3:00pm-11:30pm)
- This position is 100% onsite at GE Richmond Service Center
- Ability and willingness to work overtime, including off-hours, weekends, and holidays
- Must successfully complete a drug screen and background check
Desired Characteristics:
- Associate’s Degree / Trade School Degree
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with small to large generators, electric motors, stator and/or electrical component winding
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with assembling / disassembling end bells / retaining rings
- Minimum of 3 years of experience brazing, either by torch, carbon or induction
- Experience performing electrical testing
- Significant experience with generators or rotors;
- Apprenticeship card from state certified apprenticeship programs
Pay Transparency:
The pay for this position is B-Level role is around $27.50 - $32.75 hour for senior level hires. This position is also eligible for a $2.00/hour shift differential hourly rate increase. This posting is expected to close on Aug 7th 2025 or thereafter.
****** This is a posting for B-Level but based on experience employees have the ability to be hired in at or progress to higher levels such as is A-level (pay range: $32.75 – 40.00+/hour).
*The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
