Come Join Our Team 
Cognosante is seeking a highly motivated and certified AWS Cloud Engineer to join our team to support a large program team in support of the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA).
 
What is the position? 

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the fundamentals and best practices associated with the AWS Cloud Platform, including compute, storage, networking, and security services. They will be proficient in Linux administration, with a strong command of command line and scripting languages like Bash and Shell. Additionally, they will demonstrate a solid grasp of infrastructure management principles, including provisioning, configuration management, and orchestration tools such as Ansible, CloudFormation and Terraform. Familiarity with the VA processes and security protocols is a plus, with an understanding of compliance requirements and data security best practices specific to the VA environment.

This is a remote/telework position. 


What will I get to do?  

  • Be an advocate for our VA stakeholders and the ultimate beneficiaries of our solution - our Nation’s Veterans 
  • Design, deploy, and manage secure and scalable cloud environments on AWS for VA applications
  • Perform infrastructure assessments, migrations, and optimizations to ensure cost-effectiveness and high availability
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using tools like CloudFormation, Terraform, and Ansible
  • Troubleshoot and resolve operating system and cloud-related incidents to minimize downtime and ensure service continuity
  • Maintain a strong security posture by adhering to VA compliance and best practices for IAM and access control
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders including system administrators, developers, and VA representatives
  • Identify and execute on opportunities for process improvements
  • Meet individual potential and performance expectations
  • Maintain knowledge of VA rules and regulations
  • Ensure compliance with client-driven management and development methodologies/standards including VA DevSecOps (DSO) processes 
  • Other duties as assigned by project leadership

What qualifications do I need? 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electronics engineering, or other engineering or technical discipline   
  • 5 years of relevant experience 
  • 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education 
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate (or Professional)
  • Proven experience designing, deploying, and managing cloud infrastructure on AWS
  • Expertise in Linux administration and scripting (Bash, Shell)
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure as code (IaC) principles
  • Experience with infrastructure automation tools (Ansible, CloudFormation, Terraform)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a VA NACI clearance
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends as required
