Job Summary
The Staff Accountant II, Manufacturing, will work with the Plant Controller – Elkton to perform daily and monthly accounting activities, primarily working with the Elkton, MD site while also supporting the overall manufacturing operation with general accounting needs. Primary responsibilities will include preparation of general ledger journal entries, support of the monthly plant financial close and associated analysis, preparation of balance sheet account reconciliations and support of reporting activities across multiple production areas. As this role is in support of a manufacturing site, there will be an emphasis on variance analysis and cost accounting support, as well as project accounting activities.
Job Details/Responsibilities
- Participate in monthly, quarterly and annual financial closes for Elkton and TBAIL sites by completing assigned responsibilities and analysis including preparation of general ledger journal entries and account reconciliations
- Drive efficient and effective financial close processes through preparation of accurate journal entries, account reconciliations, and analysis of financial results, partnering with Controllers and Finance Managers as necessary.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly/quarterly reporting in a timely, and accurate manner.
- Research and analyze cost center and other financial data, ensuring transactions are recorded appropriately and investigating any discrepancies
- Variance Analysis – Support Cost Accounting in identification of variances from standard, identifying trends and shifts, investigating causes, and communicating with Operations and Finance team
- Accountable for maintaining proper accounting records, back up and reports in accordance with Company policies and procedures and International Financial Reporting Standards (“IFRS”).
- Assist Finance Manager for Product Development & Lifecycle Management (PD/LCM) with project reconciliations, departmental spend analysis, special reporting, journal entries, and ad hoc requests as needed.
- Participate in annual budget development and quarterly forecast submissions.
- Assist Elkton Controller and other Finance management with special ad hoc assignments, as requested, including special reports, projects and impromptu requests
- Support internal and external audit requests and inquiries.
- Maintain and follow TMC Quality System requirements
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA)
- Strong analytical and accounting skills
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule during monthly, quarterly and year-end closings (and special assignments) will be necessary
- Ability to multi- task, meet tight deadlines and work independently with limited supervision
- Possess strong task management skills with attention to detail and prioritization
- Strong customer service and excellent interpersonal skills (verbal and written)
- Strong attention to detail including the ability to present information in a legible / organized fashion
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to transform data into meaningful and actionable insights
- Excellent collaborator with demonstrated capability to partner with other business functions and internal stakeholders
Qualifications/ Background Experiences
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance/Business Administration or related field
- Minimum of 1 year of job relevant experience required
- Experience in a Manufacturing environment desirable
- Knowledge of ERP systems (SAP, Oracle) or other automated accounting systems a plus
- Hyperion experience desirable
