The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
The 3M IT Asset Manager (ITAM) is charged with the implementation, administration, and management of the IT Asset Management process. Including ITAM controls, protecting IT assets (i.e., hardware and software) globally, throughout their life cycle, from acquisition through final disposition.

- Design, develop, and implement 3M company’s IT Asset management strategy, including Hardware and Software, life cycle, procurement, and governance.
- Facilitate the build, maintenance, and regular illustration of the full position of hardware and software inventory.
- Respond to and negotiate external IT Asset audits, consult on review of licensing agreements as appropriate with vendor management and 3M sourcing, to ensure compliance with 3M’s purchasing and sharing standards and policies.
- Manage internal reviews of the IT Hardware and Software asset portfolio with respect to governance, compliance, and performance objectives.
- Serve as IT Hardware and Software subject matter expert.
- Manage acquisition, deployment, utilization, tracking, security, and final disposition of IT assets.
- Develop and manage the Global IT Software and Hardware Asset Management standards, and information repository of IT Hardware and Software Assets.
- Create and maintain meaningful metrics and dashboards to drive visibility of IT Asset usage, expirations, and other statistics as required.
- Collaborate and build consensus regarding software licensing parameters with 3M license holders, 3M sourcing and contract partners ensuring compliance with 3M’s polices, code of conduct, and local laws.
- Manage day to day operations of the IT Asset Management team, setting priorities, giving direction, and setting expectations.
- Proactively engage with industry peers, best practices, and emerging technologies in IT Asset Management, to drive continuous improvement within 3M’s ITAM program.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited university
- Minimum five (5) years of combined experience in process improvement and/or project management in a private, public or military environment
- Minimum three (3) years of supplier management experience in a private, public or military environment
- Minimum three (3) years of IT Asset Management experience in a private, public or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Master's degree in Information Technology and/or Business from an accredited university
- Five (5) years of IT Asset Management in a private, public, government or military environment
- Understanding of market practices and norms In-depth knowledge of 3M’s business areas, structure, and organization, as well as of the external market (competitors, trends, etc.).
- Experience working IT contracts from end-to-end (requirements gathering, reviewing, redlining, negotiating, executing).
- Experience working with IT contracts in the areas of software license agreements, end user license agreements, I.T. Hardware agreements/leases, professional services agreements, and Software as a Service (SaaS) agreements.
- Experience coordinating data collection and communications with third-party vendors as part of I.T. Asset audits.
- Experience directing vendor resources
- Strong communicate skills in written and spoken English.
- Possess working knowledge of the constructs of the various license agreements to ensure 3M’s compliance with terms and conditions.
