<h2>Job Description</h2><p></p><p><span>The Core Services organization at Zendesk builds and maintains secure, reliable, and easy-to-use authentication, authorization, and data protection features for Zendesk’s customers, products, and services.</span></p><p></p><p><span>We are looking for a well-rounded Senior Software Engineer to join our Permissions team, where you will build and contribute new features that enable our customers to have fine-grained control over access to their Zendesk accounts across all products. We own some of the largest scale services within Zendesk.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Champion standard methodologies, high quality code, and appropriate test coverage. We ship code frequently and fast, but stability and reliability must never be compromised.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Design solutions to move us further toward a fine-grained permissions management system across Zendesk services</span></p></li><li><p><span>Solve complex problems and make decisions about technical tradeoffs that optimise for prioritised qualities through analyzing using multiple perspectives and information</span></p></li></ul><p></p><h1><b><b>What you bring to the role</b></b></h1><h2><b><b>Required Qualifications:</b></b></h2><ul><li><p><span>4+ years of proven experience in a backend or full-stack application engineering role</span></p></li><li><p><span>Deep understanding of web application development and excellent knowledge of at least one JVM language and/or Ruby</span></p></li><li><p><span>Excellent communication and time-management skills</span></p></li><li><p><span>Pragmatic approach to deliver outcomes often and early</span></p></li><li><p><span>You believe building phenomenal software is a team effort and enjoy learning together through pairing, code reviews, tech talks, etc</span></p></li><li><p><span>Comfortable taking ownership of all phases of software engineering: design, development, testing, deployment, and operational issues.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Experience working on large scale Identity &amp; Access Management systems and/or familiarity with IAM industry practices</span></p></li><li><p><span>Experience with container orchestration using Docker, Kubernetes and cloud services on AWS or similar</span></p></li><li><p><span>Minimum years of experience as a Software Developer 5-10 years</span></p></li></ul><p></p><h2><b><b>Preferred Qualifications:</b></b></h2><ul><li><p><span>Prior experience owning Ruby or Scala services in a high volume, high availability environments</span></p></li><li><p><span>Experience using monitoring/alerting to ensure the reliability of a system</span></p></li><li><p><span>Familiarity with modern JS frameworks.</span></p></li></ul><p></p><h2><b><b>Tech Stack:</b></b></h2><ul><li><p><span>Our backend code is a split between Ruby on Rails and microservices written in Scala</span></p></li><li><p><span>Our frontend interfaces are written in TypeScript,  using React and GraphQL</span></p></li><li><p><span>We use AWS Aurora to store data in MySQL and Kafka to stream events between services</span></p></li><li><p><span>We use Kubernetes, Istio, Spinnaker and AWS services to deploy and scale our applications</span></p></li></ul><p></p><h1><b><b>Where We Work</b></b></h1><h2>Hybrid:</h2><p><span>Being digital first doesn’t mean we’re digital only. In this role, our hybrid experience is designed at the team level to give you a rich onsite experience packed with connection, collaboration, learning, and celebration - while also giving you flexibility to work remotely for part of the week.
