Northrop Grumman Defense Systems Sector is seeking a Staff Manufacturing System Engineer to support the Energetics Manufacturing Engineering group at our Rocket Center, WV location.

This position will we be located on-site at our Rocket Center, WV location. No remote opportunities are available for this position.

Job Summary

The Staff Manufacturing Systems Engineer develops requirements, performs technical planning, manufacturing system development/integration, verification and validation, and evaluates cost (implementation, savings and return on investment) and implementation/program risk impacts. Manufacturing systems engineers follow projects through all manufacturing readiness level phases: concept development, design, fabrication/assembly/test at lab level, production environment demo, full production operations implementation, sustainment/maintenance/ continuous improvement. These projects focus on advanced and emerging manufacturing capabilities/digital technologies with the goal of improving overall production manufacturing quality, span times/time to market and reduce cost. Leads project technical proposal/SOW writing & estimating while ensuring systemic conversion of requirements to design, implementation and production validations.  Manages project cost and schedule through all phases and execution of transition to production activities of the developed systems to program and functional manufacturing spaces. The Staff Manufacturing System Engineer has responsibilities that include, but are not limited to:

Process Development:

  • Developing new and maintaining, or improving, existing manufacturing processes with a focus on production capabilities and affordability.
  • Develop project scope requirements, perform technical planning, manufacturing system development, integration, verification and validation.
  • Creating and managing project plans (tasks, resources, and schedules) for process development activities.
  • Specifying, identifying, and procuring new manufacturing equipment for production readiness and preparing equipment for production.
  • Facilitate collaboration across Manufacturing Operations functional support groups through all manufacturing readiness phases.
  • Developing and optimizing process parameters.
  • Senior technical review of process documentation and work instructions.
  • Supplier engagement and facilitation of supplier development and risk reduction activities.

Factory Support:

  • Monitoring process yields and cost, recommending and implementing quality improvements to drive improved metrics.
