ABOUT THIS JOB

Position Specific Summary

The Therapeutic Non-Permanent Coordinator position at the City of Tucson’s Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for developing inclusive recreation programming for individuals with disabilities in therapeutic programs,, overseeing program operations, and ensuring smooth communication among all relevant parties.

Work is performed under the supervision of the Therapeutic, Adaptive, and Inclusion Supervisor. This position exercises supervision over non-permanent Senior Recreation Workers.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Develops inclusive recreation programs suitable for varying interests and skill levels

• Oversees program operations and ensures smooth communication with site personnel, parents/guardians, and recreation workers

• Supervises non-permanent staff by providing guidance, mentorship, and training on division procedures, documents issues or concerns.  Writes and performs staff evaluations.

• Plans and schedules weekly activities that promote success for all participants

• Documents and reports disciplinary incidents involving participants and submit records to the therapeutic recreation or inclusion coordinator as needed. Creates Action (Behavior) Plans for participants when needed

• Maintains site cleanliness and equipment, adhering to policies (including medication and behavior protocols)

• Ensures all paperwork is completed accurately and on time

• Assists with activities to ensure smooth operations as needed.

• Supports department-wide events and attends staff orientations and required training

• Ensures clear and accurate communication with all stakeholders, including program site personnel, parents/guardians, and recreation workers. 

• Adheres to policies and procedures of the department and reports accidents and hazardous conditions immediately to a supervisor

• Completes any additional duties as assigned

Working Conditions

This non-permanent position will work on an intermittent or seasonal basis.
Individuals in this classification may not exceed 1,300 hours in 12 months.

Work primarily takes place outdoors and requires moderate to intermediate physical activity, including standing and walking for extended periods of time in warm or hot conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
6 months post high school
Work Experience:
1 year of directly related experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Supervisory experience
2 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities
History of leading programs and program development

Application and Special Instructions

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid Certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire and must be maintained throughout employment in this position.
