Job Description Summary:In accordance with OhioHealth’s mission and values, the Medication Safety Officer directs and performs medication safety analysis, investigations, and improvement initiatives.
Job Description:
• Leads medication safety and antimicrobial stewardship strategies for the health system in collaboration with system medication safety and antimicrobial stewardship teams.
• Provides management and oversight for medication safety and antimicrobial stewardship Pharmacy teams, overseeing associates across the health system.
• Utilizes OhioHealth’s core values and cultural beliefs as the basis for decision making and to support the organization’s mission and goals.
• Utilizing data, published best practice standards, and published events or recommendations, identifies opportunities for proactive change in the medication-use system to improve patient safety and antimicrobial stewardship.
• Responsible for ensuring compliance with national patient safety recommendations and regulatory standards related to safe and appropriate medication use.
• When a significant medication error occurs, participates in the root cause analysis evaluation and recommends system changes as necessary. Leads and participates in failure mode and effects analysis on medication use systems and performance improvement projects as necessary.
• Reviews high volume, high risk, and problem prone or critical aspects of care processes for prioritization of potential medication safety improvements or initiatives.
• Integrates medication safety and antimicrobial stewardship improvement initiatives, activities and changes with clinical and operational department programs and committees (i.e., P & T Committee).
• Other duties as assigned.
JOB SUMMARY
This position leads the planning, organization, and management of the hospital's pharmacy services. The manager develops and implements appropriate pharmacy policies and practices. The scope of the position may include either operational focus, clinical focus or a combination of both depending on the size of the care site.
Responsibilities And Duties:
30%Plans, organizes, leads, and manages all aspects of pharmacy services at both a care site as well as a service line level. Meets expectations for care site pharmacy services requirements by coordinating pharmacy activities between all care site stakeholders such as: medical staffs, nursing staffs, other departments, administration, etc.

Meets hospital and service line strategic goals by developing and revising departmental goals, policies and procedures as well as providing input in the development of system level policies and procedures. Assesses and executes on the implementation of system policies at the care site level. Coordinates activities between different pharmacy department areas, establishes and monitors services to meet customer needs i.e., patients, medical staffs, etc. . Serves as the primary liaison between departments at the care site level and communicates both care site specific and system wide information as appropriate to all teams that the manager is assigned membership.
