Job Description Qualifications:

Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is seeking a Senior Airframe Structure Engineering Manager in support of F/A-18 Life Extension in Berkeley, MO. It is an exciting fast-paced opportunity to lead a team of strength engineers supporting the Service Life Modification (SLM) lines in St. Louis, San Antonio, and FRCSW.

As the Airframe Structures leader on the SLM program, you will lead the strategy and planning necessary to execute the analysis required to update the U.S. Navy's workhorse air dominance platform.  You will lead the team applying an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to execution as well as provide leadership, management, and training to teammates. You will work directly with customers, partners, suppliers, and other stakeholders evaluating needs and solutions that satisfy the customer requirements.

As a senior manager within the F/A-18 E/F/G Airframe Structures organization, you will be one of the primary interfaces to the Navy customer for coordination of technical issues. You will have responsibilities to coordinate initiatives across the organization for lean projects, knowledge management, team building, and sharing best practices.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the execution of all Structures efforts in support of the customer for platform life extension efforts.
  • Manages employees performing engineering and technical activities in the areas of Mechanical & Structural Engineering, including coordination of Technical Lead Engineers across team.
  • Develops and executes integrated program plans, policies and procedures and provides input on departmental business and technical strategies, goals, objectives; includes Cost Account Management (CAM) responsibilities.
  • Acquires resources for program activities, provides technical management of suppliers and leads process improvements.
  • Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products, and processes.
  • Support design reviews, analyses, simulations, and component / system testing to ensure delivery of products that meet or exceed customer requirements and expectations.
  • Support troubleshooting of delivered product operational / service anomalies and incidents.
  • Participate in new business development, cost reduction, schedule acceleration, and proposal development efforts.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.  An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 1+ year of experience as an assigned manager of engineers.
  • 5+ years of experience in aircraft structural design or analysis engineering.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience or coursework working with aircraft, missile, spacecraft, autonomous platform, or similar vehicle structural design and/or analysis.
  • Experience in developing proposals and in customer interactions.
  • 12+ years of aerospace industry experience in structural design and analysis.
  • 5+ years of experience as a manager.
  • Experience using Boeing Non-Recurring Product Development (NRPD) or equivalent Boeing Development Processes.
  • Experience utilizing Model Based Engineering.
  • Familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering.
  • Experience leading Boeing Defense Air Vehicle Structures development/design/analysis tasks.
  • Experience working as a Control Account Manager (CAM).
