Title:   Intern (Risk Management) – Seasonal

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: The Chicago Park District’s Summer Risk Management Intern will support the Risk Management department in its efforts to identify, assess, and mitigate risks that may impact the Chicago Park District. This internship provides a great opportunity for students to gain practical, hands-on experience in the field of risk management within a large public agency. You will work alongside a team of professionals to help maintain a safe environment for all staff and park patrons.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist in identifying and evaluating potential risks to the Chicago Park District, including operational, safety, and liability risks.
• Support the Risk Management team in conducting risk assessments of the parks, facilities, and programs.
• Help maintain and update the Risk Management database, tracking incidents, claims, and corrective actions.
• Assist in preparing risk reports and summaries for internal stakeholders.
• Assist with accident/incident investigations and ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations.
• Assist with other administrative tasks and projects as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Mandatory Qualifications: Enrolled in a degree-seeking program in an accredited college or university. Citizen or national of the United States, or otherwise legally authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Students who are currently enrolled in a degree program in Risk Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field. GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Students with an interest in Public Service and Community focused work are especially encouraged to apply.

Selected Candidates Must Provide the Following Documentation:

• Proof of current enrollment at an accredited college or university and resume; and
• Proof of Chicago residency at the start of program.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Basic understanding of risk management principles and practices 
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, monitor, and meet work deadlines.
• Willingness to complete other administerial and clerical work as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

• General work area is indoors, in a smoke-free environment, with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting. Performs tasks that involve use of hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching, walking, bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing, reaching and sitting. May perform lifting tasks up to 25 pounds.

Salary: The Summer Risk Management Intern is full-time (8 hours per day/40 hours per week). Paid Interns are limited to working 8-weeks or 320 hours per calendar year and receive $21.03 per hour. 

Number of Positions/Vacancies: Two (2) Summer Risk Management Intern positions.
