Job Description
As the Controller, you will report to the VP, Finance and lead the U.S. accounting function at TEL U.S. You will oversee all aspects of accounting operations, including General Ledger, AP, AR, Fixed Assets, and internal controls. This role is responsible for delivering accurate and compliant financial reporting, digitalizing accounting operations, and promoting the flow of decision-ready financial information. You will lead accounting related decisions, guide decisions on cash flow, balance sheet optimization, and long-term financial strategy, while championing technology and process improvements to increase speed and reduce effort.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Manage the accurate preparation of internal and external reporting of financial information, including record-to-report, procure-to-pay, intercompany accounting, fixed assets, payroll, expense tracking, and financial statements.
- Ensure effective internal control policies and procedures are in place and continuously improved.
- Coordinate month-end and quarter-end close processes, financial consolidation, and reporting packages.
- Lead external audit coordination, including financial statement preparation and issue resolution.
- Ensure integrity of financial information in accordance with U.S. GAAP and internal standards.
- Research and document technical accounting matters and educate the team on policy application.
2. Digitalization & Internal Controls
- Champion automation and technology adoption to streamline accounting operations.
- Define approval matrices and decision frameworks for accounting judgments.
- Establish processes for faster validation and reporting of financial results.
- Oversee design, implementation, and monitoring of internal controls, recommending improvements.
- Evaluate and implement the optimal operating model for controllership (e.g., centralized vs. shared services).
3. Finance Data Stewardship
- Own the processes by which financial data is created, transformed, governed, and transferred.
- Partner with upstream functions (e.g., procurement) to ensure consistent data practices.
- Enhance the chart of accounts for custom and granular reporting.
- Lead efforts to quantify and mitigate risks associated with financial data quality.
4. Leadership & Talent Development
- Redefine the vision of the Controllership function as a driver of innovation and performance.
- Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making and technology acceptance.
- Inspire the team to improve financial accuracy and transparency.
- Oversee talent development plans to build high-performing accounting and digital finance teams.
5. Strategic Partnership
- Serve as a key advisor to the VP, Finance on financial health and long-term strategy for TEL U.S.
- Collaborate with FP&A, Tax, Treasury, and Internal Audit to align financial insights and processes.
- Support working capital optimization and P&L forecasting.
Skills & Qualifications
Technical Expertise
- Expert knowledge of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting standards.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP), financial close tools, and automation platforms.
- Strong understanding of financial data architecture and governance.
Leadership & Communication
- Executive-level communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence senior stakeholders.
- Experience with agile or lean project management methodologies.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- CPA required; CMA or CFA a plus.
- 10+ years in accounting/finance leadership roles, with a track record in process improvement, ERP implementation, and audit management.
