About the role

The Supervisor II is responsible for assisting with communications between the lab office, clients and the lab staff. The primary role is to help the team with administrative and clerical operations of the lab. 

  • Knowledge of all Lab Admin responsibilities and tasks.
  • Document and report any issues or discrepancies that may have arisen during the accessioning  process
  • Email client offices to reconcile accessioning discrepancies.
  • Field email and telephone communication from client offices, Mount Sinai hospital locations and outside facilities.
  • Work as a liaison between providers and pathologists to facilitate communication regarding patient reports and results.
  • Problem solve any issues or discrepancies with missing results for clients.
  • Provide excellent customer service to Private outreach offices, and clients.
  • Prepare and document slide send out requests for 2nd opinion or consultation
  • Maintain up to date logs and electronic files for send outs.
  • Prepare slide send outs to reference laboratories for TC stains.
  • Receive and accurately file and log slide returns from outside facilities.  
  • Provide consultation reports to the appropriate Pathologist, Clinician, and log appropriately in extra or Intra-departmental logs.
  • H&E Slide distribution
  • Rework Slide distribution
  • Receive and distribute TC stains from reference laboratories.
  • Prepare IHC stain worklists for Histotechnicians at appropriate intervals.
  • Accurately file slides, blocks and requisition forms. Store and organize in Lab archive as needed.
  • Office supply inventory management.
  • Clean and organize the laboratory daily.
  • Work closely with Laboratory management and lead teams.
  • Other tasks as assigned.  
  • Associates / Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 3 years of directly related experience with 1 year in a supervisory role or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
  • Preferred:
    • Knowledge of all services, procedures, protocols and programs.
    • Strong understanding of billing policies, HIPAA, CLIA and OSHA policies, lab protocols.
    • Strong computer skills.
    • Skill in exercising initiative, fair judgement, problem solving, and decision-making.
