About the role

Position Overview
The Sterile Processing Service Technician will be responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, sterilization, and preparation of medical equipment and instruments while adhering to all safety protocols.  By managing inventory, conducting regular checks, and restocking as needed, this position will support medical staff in providing uninterrupted patient care.  The behind-the-scenes efforts contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare services at the Phoenix Veterans Affairs Healthcare System at 650 East Indian School Road, Phoenix, AZ.

Schedule/Wage/Benefits
  • Work eight (8) hour shifts; Available Monday through Sunday with possible shifts:
    • Tour 1: 6:00am – 2:30pm
    • Tour 2: 8:00am – 4:30pm
    • Tour 3: 2:30pm – 11:00pm
    • Tour 4: 3:30pm – 12:00am
    • Tour 5: 9:00pm – 5:30am
    • Technicians may rotate shifts as needed
    • Hourly Range: $25 – $30 hourly + Fully Benefit Package

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Executing medical regimens including sterilization and preparation of medical supplies and instruments.
  • Demonstrates organization and inventory management.
  • Accountable for maintaining detailed records of sterilization procedures, equipment maintenance, inventory levels and supply orders to comply with healthcare regulations and standards.
  • Possesses the knowledge and skills to effectively apply all aspects of the process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting.
  • Responsible for implementing and adhering to waste disposal protocols for hazardous materials.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Candidates must meet one or more of the following criteria:
  • Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or higher by the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM/HSPA).
  • Graduation from a nationally recognized CRCST training program with at least 2 years of current documented work in the field.
  • Graduation from a nationally recognized Operating Room Technician training program with at least 2 years of current documented work experience in a Sterile Processing Service environment.
  • Graduation from a US military training program for Surgical Technicians with at least 2 years of current documented work experience in a Sterile Processing Service environment.
  • VA Level 2 certification with at least 2 years of current work experience in the SPS environment.
  • Non-certified technicians with documented and verifiable SPS hands-on work experience for at least 5 years.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and customer service communication skills.
  • Personal traits of a high-level commitment, motivation, energy, team orientation, professionalism, trust, personal honesty and integrity, and a demonstration of placing others in a place of high value.

MACHINES & EQUIPMENT
The incumbent must be able to effectively operate the current computer system, telephone system, and other office machines such as a copier.
