The University of Maine at Presque Isle is seeking applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor of Social Work beginning in the fall 2025. The successful candidate will teach in our Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program in various modalities including in person, hybrid, competency-based, and online. They will also serve on university committees, participate in faculty meetings and professional development activities, and scholarship activities as appropriate.
The BSW Program currently offers a CSWE accredited, generalist practice program, a minor in Human Services, and certifications and/or courses offered towards certification in the university’s online learning platform, Your Pace. Certifications include Human Services Assistant, Gerontology, and the state of Maine Mental Health Rehabilitation (MHRT/C) Certifications.
This nine-month tenure track position will encompass teaching such courses as social work practice courses, research, ethics, policy or other areas within the candidates’ areas of expertise. Additional responsibilities include providing student advisement, staying current with State licensure requirements and Canadian Social Work Registration regulations, maintaining office hours, participating in campus governance/committees, program meetings, ongoing professional development and scholarship activities, and interacting with the local professional community.
Based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant, the minimum salary for Assistant Professor is $62,222, commensurate with education and experience. Key Responsibilities include (not limited to):
- Teaching in various formats such as distance or blended formats, competency-based, or face-to-face
- Syllabus and course development aligned with departmental expectations and the Council on Social Work Education standards
- Grading
- Office hours
- Correspondence with students
- Use of the online learning management system
- Course coordination meetings with other faculty members and required orientation and trainings
- Professional advising load
- Participating in campus governance/committees, program meetings
- Ongoing professional development and scholarship activities
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to collaborate within the academic community and engage with external stakeholders; proficiency in curriculum development, academic monitoring and evaluation; utilizing innovative teaching methods and technology to enhance student learning experiences, including online instruction; willingness to travel occasionally.
Required Qualifications:
- An MSW degree from a CSWE accredited program
- A minimum of three (3) years of full-time post master’s practice experience
- Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate students and develop curriculum in various modalities (such as online, competency- based, face-to-face, and hybrid)
- Experience with CSWE Competencies and requirements.
Preferred:
- Doctorate in Social Work or closely related field
- State licensure as a Clinical Social Worker
- Experience teaching non-traditional and first generation students
- Proficiency with learning management platforms
