Job Details
The Certified Respiratory Therapist administers respiratory therapy procedures to examine, diagnose, and treat patients with respiratory and pulmonary disorders. The Respiratory Therapist assesses patient condition and consults with physicians to determine appropriate treatment plans, and monitors patient progress following procedures to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment. The Respiratory Therapist also documents all patient care activities and ensures they comply with the appropriate quality of care standards and regulations of the department.Job Description
Responsibilities:
1. Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson
2. Collects and analyzes sputum, blood and breath specimens for diagnosis.
3. Performs regular assessments of patients and the equipment they are using in order to adjust oxygen levels as needed.
4. Measures the patients lung capacity to determine if there are any impairments. Performs pulmonary function and adjust
equipment to obtain optimal results in therapy.
5. Administers physician prescribed respiratory therapy by setting up all PFT equipment, oxygen delivery devices, nebulizers, and
home ventilation.
6. Offers diagnosis results and treatment suggestions based on the analysis of the patient. Assists or instructs patients and/or family
in performance of breathing exercises and other therapies.
7. Communicates, consults, and shares pertinent information with co-workers and supervisors according to established channels
and lines of authority at all times.
8. Assures smooth operation of the PFT and ABG laboratory, or other duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Proficiencies):
- Professional competency in the science of Respiratory Care commensurate with the NBRC credential.
Required Experience, Education, Certification(s), License(s):
- Graduate of a AMA approved School of Respiratory Care.
- Licensed by the State Board of Medicine or State Board of Osteopathic Medicine.
- Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support/BLS.
- Associate's/2-year degree required. Certified by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
Preferred Experience, Education, Degree, Certification(s), License(s):
- ACLS and/or NALS preferred.
- Prior experience preferred.
