Oncology Research Portfolio Lead
Bayer is a biopharmaceutical company committed to applying our scientific leadership in Oncology to transform the lives of patients with cancer. We are growing rapidly with an active research and discovery pipeline. As head of a portfolio of cancer biology drug discovery efforts, this role will play a substantial strategic part in guiding the scientific direction of the oncology pipeline. We are seeking an innovative and agile leader who brings significant expertise in drug discovery in cancer biology as well as a passion for professional development and coaching.
The Research Oncology Portfolio Lead will have global responsibility to drive strategy in target identification to contribute to a competitive and sustainable early research portfolio and deliver preclinical candidates in Oncology as defined by the Oncology precision drug development strategy in select areas of research. You will be accountable for implementing this strategy across multiple sites and countries internally as well as working with external partners to deliver innovation in these highly competitive areas of research.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of the Research Oncology Portfolio Lead are to:
- Drives and implements the Oncology Research strategy in a particular area of research in concordance with the overall Oncology precision drug development strategy;
- Supports the future directions for oncology research team and ensures successful execution of leading-edge drug discovery approaches to find and prosecute novel oncology targets;
- Responsible for delivery of a robust pipeline of high-value, high-confidence programs spanning from Target ID/Validation through to clinical development in a particular area that contributes to the larger RED ONC pipeline;
- Guides and supports the efforts of several interconnected teams of cancer biologists, including drug discovery oncology biology teams and teams focused on identification and validation of novel targets in oncology
- Communicates science and strategy effectively in a variety of internal and external settings;
- Develops a collaboration network and searches for and evaluates external opportunities (academic and biotech) for collaboration and/or in-licensing to add to our pipeline;

WHO YOU ARE
Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our life values, more specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required qualifications:
- PhD. in Cancer Biology or related field with a minimum of 10 years of industry experience
- Demonstrated success across multiple phases of oncology drug discovery, with a significant track record of successful advancement of oncology therapeutics;
- Experience with the discovery of therapies for biomarker driven, selected patient populations;
- In-depth knowledge of cancer dependency databases, data science knowledge seen as advantageous;
- Substantial experience in design and execution of early stage research program(s) to identify and validate novel targets;
- Experience in strategic planning, project leadership, and laboratory and budget management in a matrixed organization;
- Prior experience managing and mentoring a diverse set of biology scientists;
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to work across functions and within external collaborations, and a demonstrated ability to organize and communicate complex data sets in a clear and concise manner to cross-functional audiences;
