Role Description
Form Energy is hiring a Staff Materials Process Engineer to join our world-class Anode Process team. Our Anode Process Team is a cross-disciplinary group of experts in Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, and Manufacturing. Together, we’re responsible for designing, developing, and scaling cutting-edge electrode manufacturing processes for Form Energy’s Iron-Air multi-day battery.
As a Staff Materials Process Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ramping first-of-kind production processes on novel powder furnaces and hydraulic presses. Your work will be critical to the properties, performance, and function of our Iron anode, the core technology behind Form’s battery technology. We are looking for someone who has hands-on experience developing new technologies from concept to scaled implementation, and a proactive, interdisciplinary approach to problem-solving. Your work will make a significant and daily impact on a cutting-edge battery technology that will revolutionize the electric grid and bring major change to grid reliability and sustainability. This opportunity is based out of Form Energy's Weirton, WV facility. Relocation assistance is available.
What you'll do:
Land, commission, and develop automated processes on first-of-kind high-volume furnaces and thermal processing equipment.
Optimize and stabilize novel powder metallurgy processes to meet stringent part and product quality metrics.
Collaborate with our NPI-Ops team to train operators, technicians, and fellow engineers on the processes you’ve developed.
Conceptualize and prototype innovative formulations, methods, and architectures for next-generation powder-based Iron electrodes in partnership with the Anode Design team.
Work closely with equipment vendors and our Anode Manufacturing team to design equipment and scale manufacturing methods for these novel architectures.
What you'll bring:
5+ years of experience in high-temperature materials processing in a manufacturing environment
Subject matter expertise regarding metallurgical principles such as sintering, bonding, high temperature material reactions, heat treatment, microstructural characterization and mechanical/tensile testing.
Expert in powder materials processing and powder process design
Expertise with statistical methods for making process development decisions (using JMP, Minitab, or equivalent)
A collaborative, cross-functional approach to solving tough problems and delivering highly capable production processes
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Science, or a related field
