Airport Firefighter Series (Airport Firefighter - Driver Operator/Sgt.)

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Provides firefighting operations and emergency medical services under the supervision of ARFF Shift Supervisor and/or Sergeant. Operates specialized Aircraft Rescue and fire fighting vehicle and equipment, and structural fire fighting vehicle and equipment. Performs fire inspections on airport facilities, flight line and hand-held fire extinguisher, and fire hydrants, cleaning and maintenance of fire department facilities and grounds as part of a firefighting crew. Responds as a member of aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) team to Aircraft Fire Emergency, Structural Fire, Hazardous Material Spill, and Medical Emergency or special rescue situations dispatched to Augusta Regional Airport Fire Department.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responds to commercial, civilian or military aircraft emergencies at Augusta Regional Airport as an Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting crew.

Responds to all emergencies at Augusta Regional Airport.

Assist in the inspections of airport facilities, hangers, extinguishers and fire hydrants.

Maintains ARFF, structural firefighting equipment, and fire station cleanliness.

Attends and successfully completes the required in-service and formal training courses related to firefighting techniques and EMT.

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

 

 

 

Qualifications

Education:  High School diploma or GED. (Please note:  Upon hire you will be required to provide proof of education. Be sure to have the appropriate documents readily available.)    

License:   Possession of a valid driver's license with good driving history. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment.

 

Hiring grade is based on experience and certifications as outlined below. All qualified applicants will be considered for Grade 16. A higher entry level salary grade could be warranted depending on years of experience and certifications.

 

Airport Firefighter (ARFF Trainee) (Grade 16)

Experience: Three (3) years working at a fire department, volunteer fire department or airport fire department as a firefighter.

Certification (Required at time of hire unless otherwise specified):

• Firefighter II NPQ, GFSTC
• Hazmat Operations NPQ, GFSTC
• Possess or have ability to obtain Airport Firefighter NPQ, GFSTC within 6 months of hire date.
• Possess and maintain Georgia State Licensed Emergency Medical Technician
• Possess or have ability to obtain NIMS: 100, 200, 700, 800 within 1 year of hire date.

ARFF Driver Operator/Sgt. (Grade 18)

Experience:  1+ years experience working at an airport fire department or 3+ years experience working in the fire service at a professional fire department with a minimum of six (6) months as an Airport Firefighter.

Certifications Required and must be maintained:

• EMT, EMT-I, AEMT or Paramedic National Registry or Georgia Certified
• Firefighter I NPQ, GFSTC
• Firefighter II, NPQ, GFSTC
• Hazmat Awareness NPQ
• Hazmat Operations NPQ, GFSTC
• Airport Firefighter NPQ
• Driver/Operator Pumper NPQ
• Driver/Operator ARFF NPQ

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of firefighting safety practices and procedures

Ability as a team member to operate and maintain airfield crash fire fighting vehicles, rescue vehicles and related vehicles.

Ability to use and maintain self-contained breathing apparatus, power and non-powered tools and equipment.

Knowledge of fire suppression techniques.

Ability to recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate action.

Ability to carry out instructions in written, oral, and picture form.

Ability to interpret extensive variety of material in books, journals, and manuals. Comprehend and record figures accurately.

Ability
