PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Science Club Liaison supports the Science Club Initiative, an after-school science program designed to engage middle school students in science programs designated to engage middle school students in science through fun, hands-on activities.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Serve as a science-focused mentor and role model for urban youth
Prepare the science lab for weekly science activities, including lab setup, responding to needs during Science Club session and lab clean up
Maintain and organize inventories of lab-based supplies; request supply orders
Supervise safe and appropriate use of laboratory equipment
Assist with the recording Science Club youth/mentor attendance records
Assist with the organization and execution of Science Club special events, including open houses, field trips, and science fairs
Assist with distribution and collection of consent/signup forms
Provide homework help to club youth
Independently supervise youth-focused lab activities when Science Club staff are not present

 QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma/GED required; Some College preferred.
One to Two years’ Youth Development experience.
Excellent communication/inter-personal skills.
Ability to motivate youth and manage behavioral problems.
Ability to interact with general public.
Ability to plan and implement quality learning programs for youth.
Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Ability to continuously stand, walk or sit. Ability to function for more than two hours on your feet.  Ability to bend, squat, climb stairs and lift frequently. Will be working in a Club environment with children.  Ability to be outdoors during all seasons occasionally. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
