The Industrial Hygiene Manager is a key member of the SC Johnson Headquarters SHE Governance team, supporting all global business units, manufacturing sites, distribution centers, research laboratories, and office locations. This role ensures compliance with local regulatory requirements and SCJ global standards.
As the owner of the Industrial Hygiene strategy, the Manager translates technical insights into actionable goals that continuously improve SHE performance across sites of varying size and complexity. The role includes development and deployment of global standards, tools, and training that promote safe, healthy, and compliant workplaces.

ABOUT THE ROLE

SC Johnson is seeking an experienced industrial hygiene professional to join our global Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) governance team as a Manager. This is a key individual contributor role that supports all global business units, manufacturing sites, distribution centers, research laboratories, and office locations. This role ensures compliance with local regulatory requirements and SCJ global standards.

You will own the industrial hygiene strategy, translating technical insights into actionable goals that continuously improve SHE performance across sites of varying size and complexity.  You will develop and deploy global standards, tools, and training that promote safe, healthy, and compliant workplaces while also ensuring compliance with local regulatory requirements and SC Johnson’s global standards.

NOTE: You must be a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) in good standing or willing to complete the certification within 12-18 months of your start date.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Function as primary SHE point-of-contact for all industrial hygiene (IH) related matters.

  • Lead and provide technical support for indoor air quality, HVAC, ventilation systems, and domestic water systems.

  • Partner with the Global People Safety Manager to maintain industrial hygiene risk‑assessment tools.

  • Facilitate SHE technical reviews for global industrial hygiene improvement initiatives.

  • Develop and maintain tools to identify and prioritize occupational health hazards.

  • Manage third‑party IH service providers, including scope, contract negotiations, and technical reviews.

  • Provide qualitative and quantitative exposure assessments.

  • Function as liaison to global medical and risk management teams.

  • Deliver training and mentorship to regional and site SHE teams.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, environmental science, chemical or molecular engineering, or relevant discipline.

  • 7+ years of progressive SHE technical experience in global manufacturing or research and development (R&D).

  • Eligible to complete the Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification process within 12-18 months of employment.

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship for full-time employment.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS

  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).

  • Advanced degree in related discipline.

  • Experience developing, implementing, and deploying global IH programs in a large, complex/matrixed environment.

  • Ability to influence and build ownership among non-SHE champions.

  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills; project management and execution.

  • Excellent people skills as well as verbal and written storytelling/presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to foster strong partnerships with internal and external key stakeholders, leadership teams, and champions of SHE programs cross functionally and across all organizational levels.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • This position will be located at our Howe Street Global Headquarters in Racine.

  • Full-time Monday through Friday business hours.

  • Remote work is available once a week following a 90-day onboarding period.
