SUMMARY

Relay Graduate School of Education (Relay) is welcoming applications for Adjunct Instructor, Secondary Math positions on the Teacher Preparation team. In this role, you’ll be able to build relationships with graduate students and adapt our new curriculum to meet their needs. During an average month,  you can expect to do things like teach graduate students via video conference weekly, collaborate with full-time faculty to prepare for courses via weekly collaboration time, give feedback on graduate student performance, and correspond over email and telephone to support graduate students that need help. 

To grow your own skills as a teacher coach and leader of adults, you will have the opportunity to participate in team professional development and individualized coaching. This is a great opportunity for veteran teachers and/or school leaders who are looking to gain additional experience leading adult learners. Depending on the content area, there may be an opportunity to teach more than one section. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

The essential responsibilities of this position, while not limited to the following, will include: 

• Teaching Responsibilities: You will internalize courses, designed by our curriculum design faculty, and teach a course one evening per week. All Relay faculty seek to strengthen their implementation of the curriculum through observations of our teaching, feedback protocols, and collaboration.  
  • 10 weekly class sessions throughout the term (~October - December 2023) for a 3-credit course; either every Tuesday or every Thursday evening.
  • In addition to teaching, there is required weekly collaboration time (90 minutes per week), scheduled based on faculty availability
  • General, department, and course orientations are required at the beginning of the term

• Student Experience:  You will ensure exceptional student experience within department courses, ensuring students are supported to reach their full potential and serve their PK-12 students with the knowledge learned within the course. You will also ensure all courses taught by you are mission aligned, student-centered, and continuously improving based on student input. Additional responsibilities include hosting office hours, providing academic feedback, grading student work, updating students’ course progress throughout the term via progress check systems, and collaborating with student advisors and department faculty. 

• Programmatic & Design Responsibilities: You will support the design and continuous improvement of the courses offered within the department by providing ongoing feedback on the curriculum design.

First and foremost, the Adjunct Instructor, Secondary Math must share the Relay community’s commitment to working together to improve student growth and achievement through phenomenal teacher preparation grounded in diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism. This includes providing teacher preparation programs that set novice teachers up to succeed in the classroom from day one.
