About the role

Role and Scope of Position: 

This position will be shared between ERM and Corporate Insurance.  Works with departments across the organization to identify, assess, prioritize, mitigate and, where appropriate, transfer risks through insurance.  Responsible for implementing and enhancing the Enterprise Risk Management process including strategic, operational, financial, and capital allocation risk evaluations and for understanding the markets for insurance in the utility industry.

Eversource supports work-life balance by offering hybrid schedules for certain roles. Eligibility is based on job responsibilities, operational needs, nature of work and team dynamics. Current guidelines require employees to work at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with the third day set by the employee and supervisor based on department needs. These guidelines apply to roles approved for remote work and are subject to change,  based on managerial discretion and work performance. All applicants must be able to work up to five days in the office if needed (for example: emergencies, training, or other business needs) or should the policy change.

Essential Functions: 

  • Facilitates risk identification workshops with broad audiences from multiple disciplines and various levels of management.
  • Works with risk owners and project managers on the assessment, mitigation and monitoring of risks associated with operations and business unit strategies and operations, including capital projects and strategic initiatives.
  • Develops key risk indicator (KRI) reports on the status of identified risks for senior management.
  • Monitors progress of mitigation plans and risk status through the development of targeted metrics.
  • Educates assigned organizations on the fundamentals of enterprise risk management.
  • Researches emerging risks facing the utility industry and public companies.
  • Performs contract reviews for appropriate insurance requirements and indemnification agreements.
  • Responsible for the surety bond procurement and reporting and insurance applications and placements.
  • Involved with the assessment of construction risk on complex projects for the procurement of project specific insurance coverage.
  • Obtains and reviews certificates of insurance as necessary.
  • Participates and assists in the annual renewal process for various types of insurance.
  • Assist with processing and allocating various types of insurance invoices.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge and expertise in enterprise risk management, including mitigation activities, and/or insurance with respect to energy markets, physical energy assets and financial products.
  • Knowledge of the energy transmission, distribution, and marketing industry, its value chain and key industry issues.
  • Understanding of state and federal utility industry regulation.
  • Knowledge of finance and analytics.
  • Extensive resourcefulness to understand and define complex, inter-related risk, finance and/or regulatory issues.
  • Ability to think strategically, with a holistic view of the company, connecting risks to solutions, including the feasibility of transferring risk through insurance.
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills; able to express complex ideas in simple terms; well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Must be able to facilitate discussions, gain consensus, develop action plans, and drive implementation.
  • Extensive analytical skills including the ability to draw sound conclusions and act decisively.
  • Ability to think and act strategically in a fast-paced environment with frequently shifting and/or conflicting priorities.

Education:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, similar discipline or equivalent experience
  • Master’s in business or related discipline preferred

Experience:  

  • Minimum of 5-8 years related experience in the finance, operations, planning and/or risk management within the energy or other capital-intensive industry
  • Experience in regulated electric/gas industry strongly preferred.
