Job Description
This position provides individual and small group tutoring to students enrolled in the Adult Basic Education Program at TMCC, Meadowood Campus as well as support with administrative tasks. No previous tutoring or teaching experience is required. PAID on-the-job training is provided.
Tutors will assist students by meeting with them on a regular schedule to help with homework/class work and improve study skills. Subjects covered include ESL curriculum, and high school level reading, writing, social studies, science, and math. Other assistance might include: reviewing class material, discussing the text, understanding class instructions, completing homework assignments, preparing for an HSE exam, or working on solutions to problems. In addition to tutoring responsibilities, this position works closely with the Tutor Associate to support program operations and administrative tasks. These duties may include maintaining tutoring records, collecting sign-in sheets, tracking attendance, assisting with student communication and scheduling and supporting other program needs as assigned.
ABE Tutor Duties:
Complete required 10 hours of PAID tutor on-the-job training (first session only).
Assist students according to recommendations made by Literacy Associate and/or student needs.
Assist students with study strategies and techniques.
Participate in all required PAID training and meetings.
Administrative duties include: read and respond to emails daily; perform general clerical support tasks; photocopies.
Prepare for and be ready for each tutoring session.
Meet with Literacy Associate to inform them of student progress.
Resolve routine issues and forward non-routine issues with Literacy Tutor Associate.
Enforce all NSHE, TMCC and ABE Program regulations and policies in a fair and consistent manner when necessary.
Maintains confidentiality and the security of both electronic and paper files in accordance with FERPA regulations.
Performs other duties, of similar complexity, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
Ability to work a flexible schedule, up to 19 hours (Part Time) a week, Monday – Saturday.
The desire to work with students, faculty, and staff from many different backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual in English and Spanish
Compensation
Hourly wage of $19 per hour
