Job Description
The Invasive Procedure Technician reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Assists with all department related diagnostic and invasive procedures to generate information necessary for the diagnosis and subsequent interventions of inpatients and outpatients. Performs, assists and supports patient care activities. Services provided are in accordance with industry standards, department protocols, and hospital policies and procedures.
The CROU and PACU Invasive Tech will play a critical role in supporting the nursing staff in the preparation and recovery of patients undergoing invasive and noninvasive cardiology procedures. This position focuses on ensuring seamless patient flow, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and delivering exceptional patient care. The technician will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide efficient and compassionate care to patients in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment.
Responsibilities:
- Cares for the patient throughout the procedure according to department and hospital standards of patient care, age-specific sensitivities, and patients' first/best patient experience guidelines. Participate in lifting and transporting patients to and from imaging devices and procedure room.
- Documents procedures electronically.
- Corroborate patient’s clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documentation and available for use by a licensed practitioner.
- Positions patients to gain access for procedure and to best demonstrate anatomic area while respecting patient privacy and comfort.
- Maintains principles of asepsis.
- Monitors stock of supplies in procedure rooms to assure their regular availability by timely reordering, rotation of dated items, and by maintenance of a clean and orderly environment.
- Reports incidences of equipment failure, irregularities in equipment performance, and equipment in disrepair to supervisory and/or quality control personnel as soon a possible
- Provides patient education in the form of written materials and/or verbal explanation prior to, during, and subsequent to the procedure.
- Provides necessary information, comfort measures, etc to reduce patient’s anxiety and enhance comfort and tolerance of the procedure.
- Coordinates communications between physicians, clinical staff, and hospital staff to facilitate patient scheduling and flow and lab operations.
- Prepares patient for procedure, provides education/instructions to patient/significant others as needed to minimize anxiety of patient/significant other.
- Prepares procedure room for procedure including preparation of sterile procedure table, equipment positioning, operating contrast injectors and assigning patients digital imaging number.
- Facilitates scheduling and transportation of patients.
- Manages patients safely and effectively during the procedure having assessed any limitations of the patient’s cognitive abilities, psychomotor skills, emotional stability, and sensory capacities (sight, hearing, etc.) and managing accordingly
- Adheres to NMH policies and procedures applicable to patient care.
- Facilitates a multi-disciplinary and collaborative approach to patient care and interdepartmental problem solving.
- Assures that service standards are practiced
- Provide services of optimum quality with optimum productivity and customer service.
- Assist with data collection to support the measurement and tracking components of quality management.
- Participate in formal and informal process improvement and problem solving to enhance the quality of service to customers.
- Identifies areas for potential improvement and recommends corrective actions.
