Technical Product Owner

POSITION OVERVIEW

NBME is recruiting for a Technical Product Owner (TPO) who will be responsible for contributing to the modernization, expansion and optimization of NBME systems that support scoring and score reporting of examinations for the purpose of medical education, licensing and certification.

The TPO will be a key contributor to the strategy and vision for scoring and score reporting along with our Psychometrics and Data Analysis team. They will also work closely with program and product management teams to translate stakeholder needs into technical requirements, represent voice-of-the-customer priorities to the development team, and use those priorities to build and maintain the scoring and score reporting roadmap and backlog.

The Scoring and Score Reporting development team implements solutions to score and generate reports for all NBME operational exam programs and provides support for organization-wide strategic initiatives and to other scrum teams on projects and enhancements related to scoring and score reporting.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Articulate the product vision for the scoring and score reporting domain.
• Understand and channel the voice-of-the-customer.
• Elicit, analyze, and verify the needs of users and stakeholders.
• Prioritize roadmaps based on business value and changing needs.
• Collaborate with other Product Owners to coordinate requirements for cross-team dependencies across systems.
• Ensure quality of the system through definition of acceptance criteria and review of test cases
• Develop release notes and release plans to inform the stakeholder population for accountable areas.
• Participate in the business case development, approval and prioritization process.
• Work directly with a development team of approximately 10 members.
• As a member of the delivery team, participate in scrum and agile practices and ceremonies.
• Encourage the team to continually improve and increase effectiveness.
• Plan, prepare and facilitate system demos and user acceptance testing.
• Lead stakeholder engagement and ensure all team members feel engaged, productive and effective.
• Promote and contribute to Agile scrum practices and actively participate in the Agile PO Center of Excellence.

DELIVERABLES

• Well-defined and documented business and system functionality requirements (through JIRA stories with descriptions, acceptance criteria and supporting business requirements artifacts) in a prioritized backlog.

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills and Abilities

• Exceptional leadership, problem-solving, analytical, and organization skills with a detail-oriented attitude.
• Demonstrated and successful experience in creating a vision and articulating a roadmap, building teams and commitment, managing change, developing and nurturing cross-functional relationships, and influencing others.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• High-level understanding of cloud services such as AWS and Azure.

• A minimum of 2 years of applicable experience, prior product ownership experience is desirable.
