Job Definition
We’re looking for an experienced electrical engineer to design and support construction of new electrical substations and upgrades to existing ones. We have a challenging, flexible, positive environment where we balance work/life and produce high quality designs.
Provide conventional engineering design services to the District’s electric system in a technically sound, safe, timely, and cost effective manner to enable the District to realize its goals and objectives. Plans, organizes, assigns, and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Devise new approaches to problems encountered on assigned tasks. Performs as project leader on small to large projects and assignments.
Typical project tasks include the following: Prepare substation electrical drawings including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel arrangements for new or existing substations. Perform calculations such as conductor voltage drop, battery sizing, and conduit fill. Design physical bus assemblies, equipment electrical connections, and specify equipment and materials for construction on drawings and material lists. Procure equipment/materials and create purchase requisitions. Prepare project scopes, detailed budgets, and schedules. Apply applicable codes and standards such as IEEE, NESC, and NEC when necessary. Prepare RFP's, review proposals and scopes of work to procure professional services for substation designs. Review contractor work and perform contract management and associated project design coordination.
The successful candidate provides technical, engineering, and project management services related to the design, maintenance, operations, improvements of and additions to the District’s facilities and systems in a technically sound, safe, timely, and cost effective manner to enable the District to realize its goals and objectives. Performs as project leader on assigned projects and tasks.
Experience/Education

Engineer II: $102,161 - $127,702 Annually
- Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering related field, AND
- Two (2) years of related engineering experience;
OR
- Six (6) years of directly related engineering experience
Engineer III: $128,150 - $160,188 Annually
- Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering related field, AND
- Four (4) years of related engineering experience;
OR
- Eight (8) years of directly related engineering experience and a Washington State Professional Engineering License (PE) in-lieu of a Bachelor's Degree.
Professional Engineer*: $160,751 – $200,938 Annually
- Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering related field, AND
- Six (6) years of related engineering experience;
OR
- Ten (10) years of directly related engineering experience.
*Professional Engineer require a WA State PE License
Minimum Required License(s) and/or Certification(s):
- Valid Washington State Driver's License with a good driving record
