The Department of Physiology and Anatomy is home to researchers with a wide variety of interests and approaches. The Department is truly integrative as all faculty are engaged in interdisciplinary studies that span molecular, cellular, systems and behavioral sciences, with strong traditions of excellence in the study of cardiovascular, renal and neural-humoral control systems. The research activities of many of our faculty and graduate students involve studies of normal physiology such as exercise and travel to altitude as well as pathophysiological states such as heart failure, hypertension, cardiopulmonary bypass surgery, diabetes, obesity and sleep apnea.
Position Overview
Our laboratory focuses on understanding mechanisms that cause cardiac arrhythmias and heart failure. We are passionate in our mission to advance cardiovascular health. As a member of our research team, you will contribute to exciting innovative studies that bridge the gap between laboratory discoveries and clinical applications, all within a supportive and intellectually stimulating environment. Works in scientific laboratory settings helping with animal handling, preparing for experiments, processing biological samples, maintaining lab equipment, and cleaning up after experiments.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of hands-on experience in a basic science laboratory; or equivalent combination of education.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Previous hands-on experience in rodent related studies and assisting lab members with research related activities are required for this position.
- Experience with mouse handling and husbandry.
- Basic skills in small animal surgery, recovery care, injections and sample collection.
- Excellent organizational skills for maintaining laboratory supplies, equipment, solutions, inventories.
- Basic skills in mathematical computations, operation of computers and standard computer programs.
- Some experience with immunohistochemistry, western blotting and cell culture techniques.
- Ability to communicate effectively and to train others.
- Ability to adapt and learn new techniques.
