How will you make an impact in this role?
This position is a key leader in the cross-functional management team responsible for ensuring the adequacy of company credit reserves for loans and card member receivables, and for the accounting and reporting of credit reserves and related credit metrics.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Monthly analysis of changes in estimated credit reserves and the drivers for change, including preparation of quarterly presentations for senior management and the Board of Directors.
- Preparation of commentary and figures for audited financial statements for American Express Company and certain subsidiaries, including footnote disclosures for Loans and Card Member Receivables and for Reserves for Credit Losses, and ownership for processes for reporting on modifications to borrowers experiencing financial difficulty.
- Providing strategic business advisory support for consideration of credit reserves and credit metrics in the development and implementation of new products and features, and in corporate deals and transactions.
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen the control environment and enhance reporting effectiveness.
- Leading a global team of ~10 colleagues.
This role collaborates on a near daily basis with Risk Finance and Credit & Fraud Risk on credit reserves activities, as well as regularly with other teams including External Reporting, AENB Controllership, AET, Segment Controllership, and Global Financial Initiatives & Integrity, among others.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 10+ years of financial reporting and accounting experience with demonstrated expertise in US GAAP accounting.
- Prior experience analyzing data and developing new ways of looking at data and drawing insights.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial concepts effectively to diverse audiences.
- Skilled relationship builder capable of influencing and collaborating with business partners and colleagues at all organizational levels.
- Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated commitment to mentoring, coaching, and developing team members.
- Proven ability to think strategically and innovatively, and to drive organizational change and deliver results.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MBA or CPA designation.
- Working knowledge of Current Expected Credit Loss (CECL) accounting standard (ASC 326).
Minimum Qualifications
Salary Range: $123,000.00 to $215,250.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
