CERTIFIED THERAPEUTIC TEACHER or QUALIFIED MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL
FUNCTION OF JOB
Implement the daily educational therapy plan for school-age children in a day treatment program during the summer months. Define the organizational and instructional strategies to facilitate learning and self regulation of behavior through active utilization of program incentives.
CHARACTERISTIC WORK
- Develop therapeutic plans for specific children and implement programs which encompass all areas of development.
- Assess and evaluate clients; implement daily educational program for school-aged children; document client progress through written reports, notes, and summaries.
- Maintain Standard Course of Study coupled with enrichment activities while child is receiving day treatment services.
- Actively participate in the creation and or maintenance of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) which includes the gathering of behavioral data, psycho-educational testing and assessment and all supportive documentation that would support a smaller classroom setting to best meet the educational needs of the child post treatment.
- Maintain public school documentation which includes daily attendance, quarterly report cards, documentation to verify teacher/parent conferences, school work samples to include in child’s CUMM Folder maintained at Central Office and any other documentation mandated by the child’s home school and or State of North Carolina.
- Effectively communicate client’s status to team members.
- Act as liaison between community and the program. Actively partner with the school system to support the client’s educational needs both during and post treatment.
- Participate in community integration outings to practice social skills in a less structured environment.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. Support Lunch Set-up.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND GIVEN
Oral and/or written instructions are received from supervision. Provide direction and guidance to support personnel.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in child development, early childhood education, special education, recreational therapy, music therapy or related field of study.
- Exceptional Children certification/license; or Certification/Licensure in Specific Discipline/Field preferred but not required.
- Preferred Two years teaching experience in a child development program, teaching, or therapeutic setting.
- Preferred Mental health experience working with children with behavioral problems

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in education or related field.
